Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions about seat availability on specific flights. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with specific questions about availability on specific flights. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.
We have therefore created this new consolidated thread where you can ask questions about seat availability on specific flights. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve useability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread
Please post questions about availability of specific flights or upgrade probability in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, date, origin and destination and any other relevant detail.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

See this thread for hints on how to read loadings:


If looking for, say Qantas points upgrades, look for A class for First, mid to high D or any I class for Business and any R for Premium Economy.

Look for the most expensive category of the cabin YOU are currently booked in as being sold out e.g. J0 to first, W0 to Business & Y0 to PE for increased op-up chances. Also, look for availability on the discount premium buckets (A, P, I, D, U, T & Z inventories).

Conversely, look for high numbers in the discount economy buckets (N, O, Q, E & X inventories) for reduced op-up chances.

Seat maps can be a VERY rough guide but note that just because a seat is not showing as allocated does not mean that seat hasn't been sold. Not everyone pre-selects seats.

This saves us looking it up separately for ExpertFlyer, which doesn't go off flight numbers to do these searches.

Just received text from #1 son - upgrade to J confirmed at T-26. But grizzled that there were no seats left in Emerald City :shock: !! (First world problems!).

Yes we have to handle all sorts of First World problems especially when first class seats get coated in unobtainium. Last week my #2 son missed out on his requested Miles upgrade. I was lucky there as they would have been my Miles being used.

Thanks. Concluded that there's no upgrade chance for a NB booking at the last minute, so decided not to suggest my friend book QF for this trip.

I checked the BCDTravel site and it says

Not sure of the nuances of the specific booking classes but at least i seem to have a chance

Sorry to be right in these circumstances but I thought it would be better to have realistic expectations.
I hate the feeling of disappointment at the airport.
 
QF94 LAX - MEL 14/7 Upgrade unsuccessful for my daughter flying home from her holiday in LA. Though I wasn't hopeful since the plane is full and its the last day of school holidays here in Melbourne. A bonus is that jb747 is flying it though :)

Just a question, but does the time of the upgrade application have any bearing for International or is it purely status order?

I believe time matters within a status cohort, but not between cohorts. So a P1 applying 10 days out would be higher in pecking order than a WP applying 100 days but, but behind a P1 applying 50 days out.

At least that's my assumption.
