PLEASE INCLUDE DATE, FLIGHT NUMBER, ORIGIN & DESTINATION IN ALL REQUESTS
>>>> ADDED BY ADMIN (6 Sept 2010) <<<<

Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions about seat availability on specific flights. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with specific questions about availability on specific flights. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.
We have therefore created this new consolidated thread where you can ask questions about seat availability on specific flights. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve useability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread
Please post questions about availability of specific flights or upgrade probability in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, date, origin and destination and any other relevant detail.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

Thanks!

See this thread for hints on how to read loadings:

If looking for, say Qantas points upgrades, look for A class for First, mid to high D or any I class for Business and any R for Premium Economy.

Look for the most expensive category of the cabin YOU are currently booked in as being sold out e.g. J0 to first, W0 to Business & Y0 to PE for increased op-up chances. Also, look for availability on the discount premium buckets (A, P, I, D, U, T & Z inventories).

Conversely, look for high numbers in the discount economy buckets (N, O, Q, E & X inventories) for reduced op-up chances.

Seat maps can be a VERY rough guide but note that just because a seat is not showing as allocated does not mean that seat hasn't been sold. Not everyone pre-selects seats.

Original thread title: update on QF93 on 12 sept

Appreciate it if someone could check EP for loadings.

Thanks in advance.

Flying QF27 Syd scl on 20th Jan. 2 adults plus one child plus one lap infant.

Platinum status.

Classic upgrade premium economy to business requested for all three

At least 9 business seats for sale still. Should be okay?

Will be treated as 2 x upgrades, as the lap infant doesn't count / require a seat. I'd say chances are pretty good, especially given you hold Y+ tickets, which should put you ahead of other QFF Platinum members travelling in Y and chasing an upgrade.

Good luck, hope the journey with the little one goes well, and welcome to AFF!

Cheers,
Matt.

Thanks, sorry to be clear it's 3 tickets as it's two adults, plus one child, plus one lap infant. I was wondering maybe they won't upgrade because they may require them to be seated together. Is this a consideration, or no consideration?

The reason I'm posting really is that I thought: if there are 8+ tickets available (checked on site, and expert flyer shows 12 available and an additional 9 blocked), so I thought: with this many, I'll surely be upgraded at 72 hours prior. But it's now 64 hours before, so I'm wondering if there are other considerations. (My two data points for this leg was upgrading bronze family from economy to business successfully 2/2, always exactly 24 hours before).

So my belief was- if there are many seats, then they allocate at 72/48 hours prior for platinum/gold. Is this true, or is it just as likely to allocate at 60 hours etc

Thanks for the welcome, very friendly people here!

Just for clarification, how many bookings do you have?

A booking has a PNR (Passenger Name Record) and can be represented by 6 (or 5) characters. A PNR can have more than one ticket. A ticket is represented by a string of numbers with the first three representing the ticketing carrier. (Qantas' ticket numbers start with 081.)

One booking with three tickets I am fairly sure. I created them with one booking and all three tickets under the same confirmation code.
3 is tougher than 2, but I’d still place your chances as pretty high, at this point.

Note that the number of ‘available’ seats in the seat map search on ExpertFlyer is not an accurate means to determine unsold fares. The flight could actually be oversold, and still show empty seats, as that aspect is linked to check in or seat selection, etc. As horrific as this seems to us frequent travelers, not everyone will do this until closer to the flight departure, or even until the airport!

I wouldn’t expect you’d hear anything about the upgrade outcome until T-60, and given the larger pax group, maybe not until even closer to departure.

Let us know how you go!

Cheers,
Matt.

Thankyou that's good to know. I will report back for more data points.
My experiences must have been lucky, reading this thread. Although I suppose there are far fewer corporate travellers from Sydney to Santiago, and since there's really no alternative companies, also there's likely to be far fewer QFF travellers than say QF1, where most people choosing Qantas are QFF.
