Personally suggest waiting until after the flight is taken then lodging a written complaint regarding the difference in taxes paid. I doubt very much that Qantas can legally retain taxes which are not then passed on to government authorities.

apparently the taxes were more expensive on the new routing but Qantas wouldn't pass those onto me
This seems to imply the new QF routing has higher taxes than the old QR routing (makes sense, more airports transited including LHR) but QF is absorbing the cost for it.

I wouldn't take anything from the points/SC earn comment in MNB. What's more important is if the confirmation class says U class (or if you're lucky it's been put into J/C/D/I and you WOULD earn lol). either way that would be very nice bonus that you deserve for all the bloody hassle, but I wouldn't expect it.

A nice gesture of QF to absorb those extra taxes tbh. Not that it makes up for all the BS you've had to endure but it's... something and a tacit acknowledgement that they've totally screwed you around with this.

so a fairly good result FINALLY!.

I think I can see why Qantas is so loath to release very many J awards to LHR - they are having to use up any spare seats for service recovery for people with cancelled QR itineraries! Glad to see positive outcomes for several people in this thread.

I think it is their standard MO - retain taxes if the change is cheaper but demand more if the change is more expensive. I suspect this is part of the problem in calculating fees for ticketing when there have been multiple changes - they lose track of the difference between what you have paid and what the flights cost.

Think I got posts above mixed up a little. Glad to hear it is sorted for this member, though.

I won’t go into the gory details again about my challenges getting Qantas to book me a flight from DXB-MEL post Qatar cancelation but suffice today Qantas finally issued my economy ticket flying with Emirates. The points and cash component covered the cost of them opening up a revenue seat with Emirates.

Thanks for the advice and recommendations from my previous posts.
