I just got notice that my SYD-BNE flight tomorrow VA931 has been cancelled and I've been pushed onto the next flight. I got a notice earlier today about wind tomorrow disrupting flights.

Flights in and out of Sydney may be impacted by adverse weather and single runway operations tomorrow, Wednesday 13th July 2016. As a result, your Virgin Australia flight may be disrupted. We will be working to ensure we have guests safely on their way as soon as possible.
We encourage our guests to check the status of their flight here: http://virg.co/3HEba and our apologies for any inconvenience caused.

I assume they've just decided to reduce the traffic on the one runway by cancelling flights here and there. I just thought the first notice meant we could expect delays.

I was going to try and get on an earlier flight but too hard as they are pretty booked out.

Not really all that bad on the forecast. Not necessarily nice, but not limiting.

I'm heading Sydney to Adelaide tomorrow morning, just received the SMS asking do I want to check. All good on the QF front tomorrow.

Hhmm, similar thing happened to me last *wednesday*. Got an email, saying that due to "winds", SYD-CBR flight could be disrupted (didn't say cancelled) but sure enough on the morning my travel apps started beeping that flight was "cancelled". I raced off to airport to try and get an earlier flight - which there weren't any...

I suspect that low loads during school holidays was the underlying reason. All flights before and after seemed to get away ok...

Depends on how strong the forecast westerly winds are. If the Mode 13 runway op (all takeoffs and landings on runway 25, unless 34L/16R is operationally required for the extra length) is expected to occur during the day, then the maximum number of hourly movements during that period will drop from 80 to approximately 40, and airlines preparing for delays and/or cancellations ahead of time is sensible.

.....SYD-CBR flight could be disrupted.......

Last night, someone's mummy was complaining about her son was flying in a Dash 8 SYD>CBR and how it had to turn back after 2 aborted landings.

Although I totally feel for the pax that were scared and sick from the flight (pretty sure I would have been terrified), had to laugh at mum getting all riled up.

Edit: Is the son a AFF'er because I swear her FB post was there 10mins ago and now its gone.

Some airlines can afford delays more than others I suspect.

I got email and SMS notifications both times but just to make sure they rang me from a "private number" at 8pm last night. I never answer such numbers and they left a message telling me the same message about cancellation and to call them. I wasn't sure why I needed to call but did so. Got a lady in the Phils (I'm guessing by the accent but she could have been here) who wasn't really aware of it all but checked and told me what I knew already. She then confirmed my flight (blast from the past) and I was sent another email notification. Interestingly I checked in online again and got my same seat that I'd selected for the cancelled flight - I didn't re-select it, it was already showing up as that seat.

Oh and it's windy at SYD but not all THAT windy today.

Just heard an announcement in the Lounge that due to winds they were operating with one runway only. They must have known exactly when this would occur!

That's a bit worse than the forecast, and the crosswind gusts would be limiting on some types.

Still sitting at the gate approaching midday after 1100 was the official departure time. Captain says it could be ten more minutes. Google told me it was going at 12!

We sat there at the gate for over an hour and then sat out in a queue for more time. Finally took off at 120pm on the old "East-West" runway (were they taking off and landing A380s on it?).

So finally made it to BNE a mere 3.5 hours late from the original plan! Stuffed my day that's for sure. Oh well. Nothing I can do about it.

Has anyone seen a monster jet landing in high wind? Some of the footage is terrifying. Sorry guys but bigger 'aint better.......

The last thing I would want to see from my SIDE window - is the runway in front of me.

Had a friend on that flight - I don't think his mother would be posting about it, though. ;)

Apparently a pretty ugly flight, with many sick bags deployed. Left SYD late, couldn't land as you say, returned after 10pm. Pax then piled into a bus that was also unpleasant.

Eventually arrived to a very cold CBR about 2am.

Climb out of HBA this morning on QantasLink 717 felt like a cork in a washing machine! FAs were saying they weren't expecting to make it back.

Landing on 25R at Hong Kong in a 767. Lovely and clear, but a tad windy. At 3,000 feet, there was 100 knots of crosswind from the right. It reduced linearly, and surprisingly smoothly, to give us 38 knots at touchdown. Which, very conveniently, was the 767 limit. So, you'd have had a lovely view out the side....

Had a perfect flight home on the Embraer 190. Left on time, arrived early, nice view of the city on a sparkling afternoon - the colour of the water in the harbour looked amazing. Got the first train out and home in no time! All's well that ends well they say.

As an aside, on my drive to BNE I saw some massive fat military looking aircraft flying south. Four engines - looked like something out of Agents of SHIELD (although that thing has 6 engines and can land like a Harrier jump jet).
