I'm looking at doing a bit of a project for work/professionally development. Looking at the literature, flight profile information seems to be key information required for proper analysis. Is this available to the public? For example via the transponder tracking system (this is probably not the correct term but hopefully you can understand what I mean) that seems to be used to find out which aircraft operated which flight (i.e. on The Qantas Source).

I certainly have no problems asking airlines for the information. Just that being able to grab the information independently is going to be slightly easier.

Cheers. ACARS is what I had seen previously. Looks like it has potential, as it includes FL. But reading that actually collecting the data during flight might be a bit hit and miss.
