  • The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating a Southwest Airlines flight which dropped at a maximum descent rate of about 4,400 feet a minute.
  • Separately the US National Transportation Safety Board is investigating why another Boeing 737 MAX 8 Underwent a "Dutch Roll" during a flight last month.

The first event sounds like pilot error. Swept wing aircraft can all be subject to Dutch roll. It’s a consequence of strong lateral, and weak directional stability. Most aircraft have an automatic yaw damping system to control it..so the guess would be an inoperative yaw damper.

The interesting thing about all of this is just how often Southwest is appearing. I know that they're big, but they also seem to have an out of proportion grasp of the incidents and accidents.

I guess Southwest have the most Max 8 in operation (206), but you’d also expect some mention of other two big operators of the type - United (156) and Ryanair(136) experiencing issues.

Some recent stories lately hinting that the place is heading in the wrong direction.
