Just musing...

Is there anything to stop a WP from buying a JetSaver Light fare for JQ30 (MEL) or JQ35 (SYD), going and spending 3 hours in the FLounge and then, when the flight is called, simply go to the desk and say you're not feeling well and have decided against getting the flight?

Result: 3 hours of yummy meals, top shelf alcohol, champers and spa treatments for $39 (or $25.87 with a TT match).

Or...

For a non-WP to book any QF Int F ticket for tomorrow, check in 6 hrs before flight, party in the FLounge and then cancel the ticket for a full refund an hour or so before the flight?

There is use of a benefit, then there is abuse of a benefit.

What people abuse gets taken away, or makes it much harder for others to use.

I guess you can take it off into an ethics tangent, but that wasn't really the question thanks.

The discussion you have with customs/immi on the way out.
The fact that most WPs don't have the time to do this.

Ok, both are possible.

But, when QF "enhances" the program because of abuse (remember they removed ATA for Plats because they were allegedly "abusing" the privilege), then the benefit disappears.

Some bright spark reads this thread and then reports it up higher "Hey, look at how this benefit is being abused". Hence why I don't think it's a good thing to post about.

Yes, Customs will be suspicious, perhaps recorded and if done multiple times could lead to some strange questions. Also, the Qantas F staff are actually pretty good at remembering people, if done on a frequent basis - they may start recognising.

A sure way of being suspended from F lounge access for abusing the QF WP benefit. Remember the bus....

Lol, Yep ... the BUS! I'm sure Qantas would find a way to punish someone abusing F lounge access...

How is it any more abusive than booking the flight and taking it? In fact, it's less weight for them if you don't go and they still have your money.

I've mused about the question before but I thought against posting it publicly.

If F lounge access got enhanced for WPs I can tell you that will be the straw that pushes me to VA/NZ

That's the point. I took part in the Jan wake and enjoyed it (and would have come this w/e if not working) but it makes me nervous tho. when we have these big JQ35 meets publicised here on AFF as QF may remove F lounge access for WPs on J* domestic flights.

AT this point in time - I don't believe there is anything to stop you doing this. In fact, having been on a JQi flight where people haven't boarded, I dare say it's been done.

Immigration/customs may be more of an issue.

Also, if it bacame a significant issue, I am sure that something may be done about it.

If you have enough time to do this, why not just buy a return flight as well, and take both flights. It would only be $78 (or $51.74 with a TT match)!

Agreed this is one of the key things keeping me with QF, it's just such a good start to an international trip.

I have considered this also. I posted a thread asking if the practice was frowned upon by this community to fly JQ35 and use the flounge. Something not right about it, I feel like i'm cheating the system. Caveat to this is that I've only heavily flown for the last 2 years so I don't feel aggrieved at QF for taking things away from me.

I feel it's wrong and QF should explicitly exclude JQ dom flights leaving from Melbourne and Sydney International airports. Let WP on these JQ flights use the Int J lounge but keep them out of the Flounge.

In saying that with this option still open I will likely take advantage of it as the coming FY will likely be my 2nd last WP year.

It's been (in)famously done. Long, long ago...

And it's not just QF of course but any airline with lounge access selling fully flexible tickets where this could be done.

I've had to go landside again once - for a totally different reason! And I can tell you... it aint that easy - but it IS possible. (... and I went back airside again 10 mins later for my flight)
