FLounge Hacking

I feel it's wrong and QF should explicitly exclude JQ dom flights leaving from Melbourne and Sydney International airports. Let WP on these JQ flights use the Int J lounge but keep them out of the Flounge.

In saying that with this option still open I will likely take advantage of it as the coming FY will likely be my 2nd last WP year.

Agreed 100%, well said gumpy.

TBH it is something I would also take advantage of (if the right situation came up) as it's a published benefit but if there's anything QF should "enhance" further it's the removal of FL access for JQ flights period.

I would only remove it for domestic JQ flights.

Especially if AJ continues to dump QF routes and switch them to JQ.

You may not have a choice as to airline.

Personally - I hope they leave it as is.
I wouldn't think it's being over-abused. Plus, to be a WP in the first place you've earned it.

It's not like there is an extensive array of such flights.

So the short answer is Yes it would work - but with likely annoyances from customs

TBH seems like a lot of trouble for a nice meal and booze for a few hours with possible spa treatment that said if I was WP and about to travel it is probably one of the best F lounges about.

Have some bubbles and share a thought for those of us stuck in the terminal ;) (well until my SG comes through shortly)

...having been on a JQi flight where people haven't boarded, I dare say it's been done.
Adding to the anecdotal evidence; on two entries last year (SYD T1 FLounge for JQi to MEL) the front desk rep politely asked me, after handing over my WP card & JQi BP -if I was still flying on that sector. (Which I was, and didn't think anything more of it at the time, other than "strange question, of course I am flying or I wouldn't be here".)

With hindsight, of course, Qantas is probably monitoring such possibilities.

I imagine another permutation is people flying a different airline, and buying a throw-away JQi BP so they can access the FLounge before their alternate flight (remember when FLounge AnytimeAccess was a WP privilege!). BUT it would appear Qantas is aware of their behavior!

While the current CEO & Chairman are hell-bent on removing perks from their WPs (at a time when VAA is falling hand over foot to attract them), I think that technologically QF should be able to address the issue on an individual "misuse" basis.

Distictly possible I guess, if you were flying out at the right time.

There is use of a benefit, then there is abuse of a benefit.

What people abuse gets taken away, or makes it much harder for others to use.

I agree. This type of behaviour, or suggesting it as a possibility, is only asking for trouble.

Okay must be something only revealed if you know the AFF secret hand wiggle.

QF used to "fly" between PBO and TPR, but checkin and boarding procedures were not as stringent as one might expect. ;)

Currently, the cheapest JQi MEL-SYD or SYD-MEL that I can find is $59.00 (+fees for credit cards etc).

Is there such a great benefit in the Flounge over spending ca $60.00 in an airport restaurant/bar?

I doubt if Qantas is too worried. They get at least $59.00 for the lounge visit. And only WPs can do it as well.

I imagine the scenarios mooted in the OP are both possible (and have probably been done at some stage before).

Way too much potential bother involved for me to give it a go. The lure of the F lounge is insufficient for me to brave the prospect of explaining my sudden wish to re-enter Australia.

I certainly don't see any reason to change the current F lounge access rules for WPs on JQ flights (be they either true Int, or Dom leg of Int flight)...whyever would anyone want to see that change?

Not that I would bother doing it but it is very possible and it would not be classed as abuse as Qantas or F lounge staff do not need to know that you are not going to board.

- Purchase JQ ticket
- Goto F Lounge
- Before boarding is called go to JQ gate and tell them you are sick and cannot fly today

Customs and immigration may ask a few questions but fail to boards happen all the time and even if you are a repeat offender there is nothing they can do.

It cannot be abuse of the system as realistically Qantas is not going to know you went into the F Lounge and then did not board the JQ flight so it cannot be regarded as abuse. Not unless a bright spark had nothing to do and cross matched anyone with F lounge access on the day which is not likely to happen anyway.

This sort of scam would be an abuse of FLounge access. I can see a further enhancement coming.

At (currently) $59.00+ per lounge entry and even then only for Qantas WPs, perhaps Qantas should actually advertise it! (DFAT might not be happy, but). (it might help improve QF international profits, but).

And even if you booked a JQ refundable fare, it still has a $50.00 refund fee.

(really - who would bother?)
