A quick question, which I am sure has been answered before, but my trawling didn't manage to find anything. I've got a couple of flights coming up that I want to use fly ahead for. Can I still request fly ahead if I've already checked in?
Thanks for the postings btw. So much information here, it's brilliant.

Yes you can. I did it a couple of weeks ago. The Angels in The Lounge did it for me.

*Edit - I only had hand luggage.

Technically no, going by the rules, and I suspect that's because of baggage issues, however I have used it often after check in with hand luggage only.

I guess when it's done from the lounge, it's not "Fly Ahead" going by the current terms.

When I was put on an earlier flight yesterday from the CBR lounge the agent was going to arrange to have any checked luggage transferred (I had none).

Yes you can fly ahead after checking in without luggage. I've also flown ahead after checking in online (intending to check baggage) and then asking at bag drop if I could move to an earlier flight. Have never tried with an already-checked-in bag (I suppose this might be desirable if you've checked in and later find out that your flight is so delayed that it's no longer the next to leave).

Yes, I had a 2 segment trip to accommodate a meeting at the airport, so checked in and boarding pass printed, no luggage.

After completing first sector, meeting was cancelled last minute. Mentioned to lounge staff Fly Ahead and was put on the next plane without much questions.

Awesome hassle free benefit :)

I can't say enough good about Fly-ahead. It is one of the most valuable benefits of membership. I really hope it never goes.

Thanks for the responses. I have used fly ahead a couple of times, and agree it is awesome. Especially when you just want to get home :)

I've got a couple of trips coming up and choose the seats with call centre, but it turned into a bit of drama, so I was wondering whether i should check in and get better seats, and then try to Fly ahead, or just leave as is and bank on Fly ahead. I think I will leave as is after all that.

and bank on Fly ahead.

If it's just seat position, no worries but never bank on fly ahead otherwise. I have had numerous fly ahead attempts which weren't possible. Having said that, I've had plenty that were available but I don't tend to check-in if I think there's a possibility of a fly ahead (but like the others, have done so without drama).

+1 Never bank on fly ahead, even with flights between SYD and MEL every 15misn in peak hour, it takes just one cancelled flight and you won't be able to get a seat.

Used it a number of times after having checked in without issue. Biggest stretch was turning up at 7am to fly ahead of my checked in 4.30pm flight after my plans changed...

Fly ahead is a fantastic part of the VFF program especially to those who qualify to use it, there shouldn't be any questions from the staffing side regarding a customer requests to fly ahead, given that there are available seats. I've used it more than once and haven't found any problems just as yet.
