Anyone tried it at HBA airport? I arrive at 1:30pm from ADL and have a flight booked for 10pm HBA - MEL and want to fly on a 3pm flight. If so, do we go to the regular counters? Or should I try at ADL?

Last experience in Syd at the Dom transfers, dragon said no as flights were all full. Got to the lounge and the angel moved me to a 1pm flight.

While not from HBA specifically I've never had an issue utilising Fly Ahead at any port, provided there are seats available of course. I check a bag on 90% of flights so almost all of my requests have been at the check in desk. I'm guessing you encountered an agent who either didn't know how/didn't care to do it.

Try HBA check-in (yes I know you are in transit) and/or the lounge. Different people can provide different results.

In my recent experience from OOL I have been offered fly ahead without asking but I usually knock it back as 30 minutes earlier is not worth it with me sitting down the back somewhere on an earlier flight.

TBH its a SC run, I don't want to stay in HBA for 9 hours... There is no lounge too. I guess I'll ask for it at ADL to be safe.

Yeah, the dragon didn't care, sorry sir we had a flight cancellation and everyone has been moved, all flights are full. They were still selling flexi's online. Fraser, my partner and I all were allocated in row 3. Should if gotten that dragons name.

I was under the impression we couldn't fly ahead with bags but I'm proven wrong! I would of checked in then bag dropped.

With checked luggage, your "dragon" was actually correct. No fly ahead......officially. As late as yesterday afternoon though, the SYD dom check-in "angel" gave me the option of two earlier flights and even got me 3A with a shadow (and I had checked luggage). Hardly the action of a dragon!

On the other hand, at MKY I tried to get a fly ahead with luggage and they couldn't do it (all seats sold) but at close of flight, there were 2 no-shows. The lounge angel tried her hardest to get me on that flight, but because I had checked luggage she wasn't able to (they would have had to delay the departure). She apologised profusely, but it wasn't an issue for me as "thems the rules" and I do appreciate the times they can bend them, but also understand that is not always possible.

Sorry the bag comment was at DWG! All my bags were HLO,

For your MYK flight did you check if there were still seats being sold online? I would of turned the words of the dragon at the SYD int transfer desk against her as she told a straight forward lie. She was probably having a bad day and I'm leaving it at that, I didn't check in any bags as I was going HLO, but If there is time before the flight I don't see why you can't drop off your bag if needed. ;)

Yes I did and no there wasn't. It was the day the ex-tropical cyclone closed ROK and was headed to BNE with rumours that would close too. It was why it was fully booked (a lot of miners who'd normally drive to ROK went to MKY instead) and the only reason I even considered fly ahead (given it would mean moving from a 738 to an ATR pig) was to get into BNE before it closed. As it turned out BNE didn't close that night and given the bumps on the 738, I'm also guessing I had a far more comfortable flt than aboard the flying Greyhound bus.

*Bumping* especially for @dzinh

How'd the fly ahead work for HBA back in April?? Looking to book in Feb a cheaper 1030am fare with luggage for my wife - then fly ahead at the dearer 0600am flight to MEL...

Fly Ahead is a benefit of Gold/Platinum, so i'm not sure why people are asking if it works. I'd be more inclined to look at the loads on each flight and make a decision based on that.

Fly Ahead with luggage is not a benefit so should not be expected (even in MEL and SYD people have mixed experiences). Book the 10:30 and expect to fly it, and if you get on the 0600 it's a bonus.

See this thread which has the T&C wording:
http://www.australianfrequentflyer....tralia-velocity/fly-ahead-benefits-32678.html

(Same wording now in cl 21)

Essentially it is "supposed" to be a lounge-only benefit., and thus only for those without checked luggage.

That said, I have previously arrived at PER for a day-trip back from ADL and booked out on the red-eye, approached the service desk and got myself shifted to the 4pm back to SYD

I've ended up booking the 0600 at double the 1030am price... The flight loadings for what I can tell are similar. No S & T fare buckets but plenty availability.
