Fly Buys have just come out with a promo that is offering 1 point for every dollar spent from 1st Sept to 30th Nov... Think this could have something to do with the possibility of VA announcement changing everything in their program?

We already know about the Flybuys partnership, and it says September 1, so that must meen the relaunch must be before then. Plus, the velocity program will be relaunched with a new name and all.:D

jack, do you really think that Virgin would rebrand their website, launch a new Amex partnership and take the time and effort to design, produce and send out new gold/silver membership cards & bag tags all within weeks of them changing the name?

Where do you get this stuff from ?!

Yes. This board, John Borghetti himself, everywhere.

They're not changing the name, mate, they're relaunching the product.
Please dont tell me you just said that !!!!!. Of-course they are having a new name, who on earth know's velocity? Why would virgin themselves say that, John Borghetti said this as well "and of course in a few months, in a few months, we will roll out a completely new, and i mean a completely new frequent flyer program, so stay tuned for that one". Please go read some stuff on this board. I can tell you now, there will be a new name.

I don't mind reading the DJ threads as there's always something interesting to be discussed. However, as I don't fly DJ often I won't participate as I have nothing additional to add that might be of value.

However, this is one of the few DJ thread posts I will make where I have some value and perspective to add to a discussion, and it's this comment quoted below which has drawn me in.

Yes. This board, John Borghetti himself, everywhere.

For those who don't know my background, I have served on a corporate board as a Non-executive Director of a Higher Educational institution with AUD250 million/yr operating budget. In order to sit on any corporate board, even for a short length of time, you get a massive indoctrination into matters of corporate governance, information security and directors indemnity (and specially what things would void your indemnity insurance), plus codes of ethics and best practice set down by the Australian Institute for Company Directors (AICD). And that's all before a lesson in the Corporations Act and what it means to how you effectively execute your role within the law.

Jack - I've seen your posts for quite some time now, and I do not believe even for a second that you have any contact or connection with DJ's JB. And even if you did, there is no way in hell he would have uttered or disclosed a single breath to you of what DJ are planning in this regard.

And why would he have said nothing - because the information is market sensitive and without question confidential. That information would have a direct influence on their share price and how they are perceived by the market, and the release or discussion of these matters outside the board, senior management team, external partners or staff that may be involved with its design or implementation would be strictly prohibited.

Discussion of that information would be grounds to terminate someone for cause, and that is not withstanding the major coronary event their insurers, corporate governance, shareholder management and the board would have if it was discussed or disclosed before such a time when they were ready to announce to market.

Further, I cannot recall any comments by JB in public which would irrefutably support or lend reasonable weight to your claims.

As for posters on this forum, I'm pretty sure they are cognisant of the fact that, and it is obvious from the way they have expressed themselves, that what they have written and posted is nothing beyond speculation, scuttlebutt and rumour. You cannot suggest, specially without any factual evidence to support, that what has been suggested or guessed at will actually happen verbatim.

As for everywhere else, I again am not aware of any significant discussion or deliberation which would support your claims.

Or - let me bring brevity to the fore to express what I mean from all of the above: Cease and desist from trying to big note yourself, and claiming to know more than you actually do. It is obvious to me and no doubt many others that you don't have the first clue as to what is going on, and have zero access to any connections or reliable sources which might support your claims.

Further, most members around here have pretty well tuned BS detectors. Your posts always give off a reading of 11 every time I see one, because its obvious to me from the style of writing and language used that there is no factual basis for what you write.

So, either put up the evidence to support your claims - or crawl back into your corner and realise that your rubbish just won't wash here.

That might make sense excepted the promo is targeted not a free for all.

Jack only quoted what JB said in a press conference, he never claimed he has any link with JB, the Virgin group or anything of that nature. His information (as HE states) is from this board and other forums.

Calm down, and don't talk to other members in such a derogative manner! Relax, read the post, and think before you post.

Sorry Jack, but suggestion or hint of something does not evidence make.

Normally, like the adult learners I've taught, I would tell you to go back and carefully re-read the text to identify the key points they missed that relate to the argument or view they have made. Sadly that technique would be lost on you.

Instead of responding with facts and evidence, you responded with supposition and twisting of comments in an effort to prove your point. Let me be even clearer - you twisted views and comments to support a statement which has no factual basis. You also ignored the key points of the thesis that called you out on the behaviors of concern which lead reasonable readers to believe you are 'full of it'.

Your view also ignores the OPs view, summarised best by the Latin fallacy Post hoc ergo propter hoc, albeit speaking technically this points opportunity occurs before the changes theorised.

Further, you ignored the robust analysis of why nothing of sufficient enough detail could be said until such a plan was ready and approved for market. It demonstrates a complete lack of competence on your part as to how the corporate world works, and the legal obligations of same.

Finally, statements made by both DJ and Coles Group (who own Loyalty Pacific and the FlyBuys brand) explicitly state that they will consider all and any opportunities relevant to members in proposed relaunches of their respective loyalty programs (keeping their options wide open) and neither party confirmed that they were in discussions with the other (Sunday Herald Sun, 3 April 2011).

So again, the suggestion of any deal is, until proven otherwise by way of corporate announcement, a suggestion, speculation, scuttlebutt, rumor or any of the multitude of words to describe something that hasn't happened.

I'm not even going to bother arguing with you, you will just have to wait and see <redacted>

Jack, ... I just don't think you've thought this through.

JB said there would be a complete overhaul, he did NOT say there would be a name change:

- There is now a major difference in the way SCs and status is done. MAJOR CHANGE
- There will be a new Platinum level. MAJOR CHANGE
- A new Gold Centre. MAJOR CHANGE
- The way Golds are treated onboard and on the ground. MAJOR CHANGE
- New lounges in MEL and BNE. MAJOR CHANGE
- Premium boarding for VELOCITY Golds. MAJOR CHANGE
- Premium security at SYD for VELOCITY Golds. MAJOR CHANGE

...And probably a few others I can't think of (and hopefully many more to come!). THAT is the overhaul, not a freakin name change.

Right, we all have our own thoughts, there is much more to come it does not stop here.

Let me leave this phrase with you from JB himself

"And of course in a few months, we will roll out a completely NEW, and i mean a COMPLETELY NEW frequent flyer prgram"

What they are doing is rolling out PART's of the new FFP. The major announcement/s will have the full details, but many of use are convinced and in-fact there is a thread on it, of a name change.

Who know's Velocity?

Plus sign's are easily changed they are just paper.

Also, the logo is just temporarily to blend with the new colours and the font change.

Plus if they weren't changing the name why would they be major announcements coming up for it, and not just saying that velocity will stay. I am confused there.

Jack

OK so a huge multi national like Amex is going to sign a deal with an airline to launch a co-branded credit card knowing full well that
some months down the track that airline partner is going to rename the program associated with the card necessitating a completly
new designed card, changes to stationery, website, possibly even call centre ivr announcements etc?
Some may believe that, personally I don't,and if they did Virgin would be proving to me that they still don't get it,that's not the way to
run a professional airline in my view,I hear on the grapevine that there will be an announcement about the relaunch of Velocity in either
late August or early September but I do not at this stage believe it will involve a name change, time will tell whether I am correct,if I am
wrong I will be the first to own up,but I for one won't be holding my breath-relaunch of the program-Yes,rename-very,very doubtful (IMO)
Cheers

Jack, this is where you are just so terribly ignorant. If you have no idea of the cost of rebranding and think it's "easily changed they are just paper" then there really is nothing to discuss.

You just have no idea. Sorry, that's the plain (plane?) truth mate.
