Fly J or go out of your way to fly F

Thanks MEL_Traveller and Cruiser Elite, didnt want to press something if my facts were wrong.

Will give them another call shortly.

Considering at best you'd be in business PER-SYD for 4 hours, one more hour and you'd be in SIN already. Either way you have to fly business for 4-5 hours. Sounds like you want to kill time, money and/or miles. Why not then just burn from SIN to some random destination?

I don't think it's about killing time or wasting points but all about the travel experience. If one need to fly overseas for quick business meeting for example it makes sense to take the shortest route possible but if going for holiday then why not make the journey as fun as the destination. According to previous posts the OP doesn't need to select a random destination because he continues to MLE, assuming for holiday.

Spoke to a really helpful person at the call center. The 102,500 less 15% is correct and the made a note for when I have transferred the points over to book.

Now to work out my Qantas return booking <- This one is proving a bit more difficult to be honest.

Hey davidj, the thought was more around the experience (something we havent done yet and not sure when we will both be able to get away together like this again without the little one) so yes it may be a weird route to take but figured we can do 2 days in Sydney then onwards in a bed with some champers :)

Well that was the thought anyway.

Correct. Just need to make sure the 380 still goes to AKL.

You may need to be quick as a few weeks ago booked SQ286 next September for NZ based daughter on 777ER, at least F with other flight a 787 and J only.

With some A380 planes finishing after 10 year leases the Suites class has been disappearing on one of our favourite runs to LAX. Don't put it off and if you have the Kris Miles going to London gets you a very nice Suites run and on Saver it is a great redemption. We overnight in Singapore at the Crowne Plaza and that is a place that works fine for splitting up the long haul.

SQ also offer same day arrival access into TPR for all R/F pax so you can enjoy TPR on arr into SIN.

This thread is perfect for me (and will be my first time flying SQ too). I needed to get to Singapore for new year, and the only redemption I could find was a first saver from Sydney (and paid PER-SIN were ridiculous prices, with only ~2 Y seats free on the day I was looking). So I'm flying to SYD in VA J 'The Business' 2 days earlier (xmas day), and then flying to SIN on the A380 (first time on A380 as well). Coming back in the new year there were a few redemption options, and went (for timing reasons) with a direct SIN-PER in J (777-200 boo!).

So three 'firsts' for me: SQ, A380, and first class (of any type) :D.

I will arrive in SIN at 00:20, but my friend will arrive at 04:55. Will I be able to relax in the lounge whilst waiting? I understand TPR might be closed overnight? Also will my checked luggage be a problem - e.g. will it be left on the carousel? Thanks!

TPR is closed from 0200-0500, but the F lounge will be open. Your luggage will end up in the lost luggage section (or similar) for you to collect when you pass through immigration.

Important to make sure you get processed by immigration at your scheduled arrival terminal. If you arrived T3 your luggage will be held at T3. If you clear at another terminal's immigration you can have a bit of trouble trying to get access to your luggage.

This is mainly an issue if say arrive T3 but go to the transit hotel at T1 and then try and exit there. Or even meeting a friend off another flight, it can be tempting to exit via their terminal rather than the one you originally came in through.

With SQ you have an almost 4 years to use your Kris Miles. Letting them expire would be like committing a frequent flyer crime of the century.
With their A380s being likely to finish in the next 36 months you will never, never know if you never never go!

Thanks for the advice (and thanks JessicaTam too)! I guess my plan will be to go to the F lounge for a few hours at whichever terminal I arrive (probably T3), and then exit immigration / collect luggage before making my way to Terminal 1 to meet my friend landside.

Thanks, I wasn't aware of that. Does it also hold true if there is no luggage? Or is it just an area access thing?

Just an access area thing. While the departures areas are linked, the baggage halls are not. Obviously it is possible to get your luggage from the (non-secure) land-side area of the correct terminal if you exit from the wrong terminal, but involves a bit of a wait + fluffing around.
