My partner was on a flight from MEL-SYD that turned around when it got to CBR as the weather was too poor in SYD for landing. They returned to MEL and by then the curfew in SYD had kicked in. QF really looked after everyone with Melbournians getting 2 cab passes and Sydneysiders a night's accommodation and, of course, a flight for the next day. I can't see that happening with other airlines.

The point is, she spent about 3 hours on the flight, got to CBR and back....she got the points and SCs for the completed trip the next day but this initial flight must have been worth some award too! She turned up, they took off, landed (thankfully!) and she spent 3 hours in the hands of QF....isn't that enough for them to warrant the flight rewards? ;)

You dont get extra points for trips that are not part of the ticketed routing, after all you dont get mileage when you spend an extra hour flying in circles in a holding pattern nor do you get mileage for trips that were not ticketed.

Yep, unfortuately (though IMHO quite rightly), paid for a flight from MEL-SYD, got the points for a flight from MEL-SYD.

So it's all to do with QF revenue then.... a bit like the old VA method of points per $. (I'm being facetious!)

When it boils down to it :)
Hence why we get different points for different fare classes as well, even though the distance is the same.

Actually the points do not vary on the fare class, the Status Credits do though....

I flew QF31 SYD-LHR and at SIN the A380 carped itself (after we spent four hours on board at SIN - I did however sleep the entire four hours). I then flew on QF8831 SIN-LHR and got points/SC for SYD-LHR on QF31 and SIN-LHR on QF8831 plus $1000 travel voucher compensation (that also snagged me 80 SCs SYD-MEL-SYD in J).

I spent 3 hours holding over Cbr last week and ended up going back to Syd where we took off from. SCs awarded for one flight. Such is life, thats what i paid for!

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I was referring to the Cabin bonus when I said fare class (poor choice of wording on my part). i.e. economy, premium economy, business, etc will earn different points even though the distance flown is the same.
