Thanks Strategic Aviation for all the extra info which i should have been able to find  (like your avatar) i look forward to spending sometime in the Lounge in the next couple of on the way to Cairns to catch up with family.
Thanks again.

I have received the Explore Gold offer as well. Pretty chuffed as I have always been Red. Great timing for me as I have an upcoming trip to USA with Virgin :)
Hoping more experienced Gold flyers can fill me in on the best ways to benefit from my elite status; especially in the US. Flying VA1 SYD to LAX; DL407 LAX to JFK; DL423 SFO to LAX and VA2 LAX to SYD. Will have several further US domestic + Canadian flights, probably with Delta and Air Canada.
Especially interested in tips on the best lounges. Delta Sky Club I know, Etihad @ LAX although opening hours seem limited. Which are the best (situated) lounges to use at LAX for connecting Virgin/Delta flights?
Also any tips on getting better seats? I'm on an economy ticket, and when I did the booking, I couldn't access any special seats without paying.
I assume I won't have to pay for bags with Delta? (Likely to be taking carry on only but good to know).

Can someone here confirm that I can earn 80 SCs for the 12 month gold? 2 pax travelling, family pooling, return MEL-OOL, Elevate Q class. Thanks.

Enjoying this preview of Gold even more than I thought I would thanks to some fortuitous timing - I had several flights booked with VA and NZ already in the 3 month period, so adding on lounge access and priority check-in, boarding, and baggage has been a nice bonus. Especially beating the zoo that is SYD T2 on a Saturday morning by using the VA lounge direct entrance. So far been able to enjoy the VA lounges in SYD & PER along with the NZ lounges in SYD and CHC - very pleasant indeed!

EDIT: The Express Path through Passport Control / Security at SYD was also worthy of mention.

I don't like to imagine dropping back now, so I guess their promotion worked wonders (on me, at least)!

I also loved it so much that I both upped my Coles spend and booked a status run to Sydney and back! Just ticked over to 82 SC's, well ahead of my June 7 deadline :D

Retaining it will be much more difficult as my planned travel will only likely net me ~ 240. Gotta hope for work to pick up the slack ;-)

The benefits of status were really noticeable travelling with my wife and baby - less waiting around in queues and lounge access, plus the extra baggage allowance was so useful.

I just received an email about another flybuys/velocity promotion. If I agree to have all my flybuys points automatically transferred to Velocity in May and June I get 15% bonus points and 3 months Explore Gold with Velocity. Sounds great except I am already gold thanks to earlier offer....................Velocity seems to be trying very hard to up its gold numbers.........

Anyone know how flybuys target who get Explorer gold or not?

I just received the offer today, but already have enough SCs earned and flights booked to requalify for my fifth year as VA Gold, so goodness knows why I received it!

Maybe you should try to give the explore gold to a family member or friend

Looks like it's targeted - from the offer Ts & Cs:

"5. To be eligible you need to be a member of both flybuys and Velocity Frequent Flyer and be personally sent this offer."

I was surprised to receive this offer today. Maybe i spent quite a bit at Coles over the past month (Got a few status points as a result)
I don't have many flybuys points myself too (Just under 40k) It is a shame that i don't have any travel plans over the next 3 months.
(Going to Japan in November) So i am not sure if i should take up the offer now. Or wait to see if there is another offer down the line.

I had the same issue. He got the offer in March but we weren't flying until July. We were considering doing a quick few flights with VA, but opted not to. Glad I did as I personally received the same offer today. That means I can apply, take advantage of the offer while travelling and also get enough SCs to keep my status for another year.

Hopefully you might also get another invite closer to the day.

Thanks for the reply, RoseAnna. Yes, fingers crossed i will get another offer later in the year.

I read through the thread but didn't see a definitive answer.

What happens if you are already Virgin Gold?

Hi McLarin,

I recently joined Flybuys, and had flown a few Virgin flights when I was offered it. Just make sure your flybuys account is linked to your velocity account and keep your fingers crossed.

Good luck!
