Flybuys for newbies AKA ex Woolies customers

Many thanks, Rainbowgirl. I didn't know I can legitimately double-dip with Flybuys at Coles. So this week it's 1000pts for spending $60 (from previous docket) and week 1 of a 3-week shop for a bonus 10000pts. We used to favour Woolies but under new Rewards (or lack of) scheme we will make more trips to Coles.

Another aspect is if you buy a Coles Insurance policy it will give you an extra FB/$ at Coles up to 1000 FB/month.

Coles insurance will often price match but worth checking that the policies cover everything you want them to and a re equivalent.
(Eg I wasn't happy with the water damage exclusions on home insurance and I understand Coles car premiums jump higher than average if you make a claim)

Occasionally Flybuys has the "double value" rewards which can be better value than redeeming for shopping vouchers. The Lipault luggage they have there at the moment is worth $150 shopping vouchers' worth of points, but is more expensive elsewhere. Since I'm needing a new case... :)
(of course I just found it deeply discounted on the luggagegear.com website for $155, so not that much better value, except that you get a "free" cross-body bag with the flybuys purchase...)

Can someone help me please.

As someone not accross the FLybuys program... I went into my account and was looking at the others and the new competition linking up to Eithad...

I 'entered' by following the prompts and sign up as a new Eithad ff and linked my cards... (that's what i had to do to enter...)

Anyway my question is

Do i still get fly buys points? Or have i just opted in to Eithad points not fly buys points? Or do i get both?

You will still get FBs (which you can redeem as you wish).

You will also earn EY Tier Miles which contribute to EY status but can't be redeemed. I'm not sure whether the EY tier miles will br credited as you go or as a monthly sweep.Tier mile earn rate will be tripled and the monthly cap on tier miles increased until end of year

And if not already noted, linking your AGL bill to FB gets you 1 point per dollar.

Though FB does have a dark side as well ... the amount you need to spend to achieve the same bonus points reward starts to rise the more you shop with Coles. So we used to split our shopping across Coles & Woolies to help keep both sets of 'gates' sensible vs the reward on offer. We have seen the Coles offer jump very quickly once their systems sees to see you spending.

Other combos: Just reviewed my transaction history to notice I've been earning points for my telstra recharges, and aparrently this month it's a 5x bonus!

If anyone's interested, Mrs Excel & I jumped to telstra prepaid for the purpose of earning points on credit purchases, as well as purchasing using 5% off gift cards. Incidentally this month we also got 1500 fly buys points for "recharge $50+ and get $1500 bonus points" when I bought 2x $40 recharges. That same transaction also stacked with a 500 bonus points for $50 spend voucher, the regular 80 points for the $80 spend, and what appears to be a regular 3 points per dollar earn on telstra recharges at coles (120 points times two).

So altogether, 3280 points for purchasing and recharging two telstra $40 prepaid recharges.

Flybuys sent me an email about the prepaid rechargeable MasterCard, there is a $10 charge for the card (waived in my email) plus minimum deposit on applying of $10.
You get 2000 FB Miles for applying plus 1 FB for every $1 spent anywhere MasterCard is accepted, it also acts as your new Flybuys card, so just transfer $$$ to the MasterCard before spending online or anywhere really.

2000 FB for $10 isn't too bad.

Also noted that EY KUL-AMS rtn in Y is only 30306 + A$438 tax, add to this an Air Asia MEL-KUL rtn in May 2016 gives a total $$$ outlay of A$970 MEL-AMS rtn :-)

So in effect with the fee waived , that's a very easy 2000 Flybuys points earnt.

This sounds like a good deal. I haven't had an email like this. I'd only be interested if the application or purchase fee is waived. How do you load the card?

This mastercard sounds a lot like what I use the Qantas Cash card for.

Are you sure the re-loadable mastercard is one point earn per $1 spent. The info I've just come across says 1 point per $2 spent which is the same as the Qantas Cash card.

The Mastercard acts as your new Flybuys card at the usual earning rate, plus you get the extra 1 pt per $2 if you pay with the card, I could have been a bit clearer.

Slightly OT but is anyone else having trouble logging into their new flybuys account. I got a temporary card, registered it but then cannot log in

I just logged into my existing account and everything looked fine.

I have heard of new members having the problem you've described but the only solution I know of is calling the call centre when they open up again. You may have to wait until Monday.

You can buy Coles egift cards at 5% off from places such as AGL Rewards. These only work in Coles, but you can use the egift card to buy Coles Group gift cards (which then work at Shell, Liquorland etc). There is a 1% cc surcharge, so it's not as good as 5% off Wish Cards but it is close enough.

So here is my weekend spent as a (slightly more loyal) coles shopper.

I was supposed to be armed with Spend $30 get $5 off (specific to me and specific store only) and 500 bonus points if i spent over $90.

So it started off bad when i forgot the vouchers. So i will be calling them tomorrow (i forgot the details today...) to see if they will still give the bonus points. I am hoping they are easier to 'claim' than with WW.

Easily spent $96 - although wont be so easy to hit the coming weeks as i have 4 weeks of the bonus points offers in my mail out (which previously i ignored)

On Sunday - I had to grab a few more things and went to Coles specifically (IGA is actually my closest and most convenient store for a quick trip) and easily spent the $30 and got my $5 off.

Now on my big shop there was a few things i could not see on the shelves which i was disappointed about... I am sure i got them at other stores so it seems this store is a low grade store, which is disappointing. I have another store which is almost as close but i have an issue access the car park due to car clearance :-(.

I then went to get petrol because on Friday I an email for 500 bonus points for getting 30L. Filled up and went in store armed with my card to scan. Cashier then said - 'any discounts?' and i was like 'doh!... ' went out to car to get receipt from shopping for my 4c off a litre!

I also just logged into my account and saw Saturday's shop earnt a triple points!

So in summary for me

Saturday
$96 shop, 96 standard points plus 192 triple plus 500 bonus points = 788
$63 in fuel - save 4c/L and earnt 500 bonus points = 563

Sunday
$41, save $5 AND earnt 41 pts!

Grand total 1392

My sister (who is even less of a coles shopper than me)

Called Flybys and asked why she didn't get the coupons like i got.

They answered "Since we have so many members we like to share them around and not everyoen gets them all the time"

What are peoples thoughts on this?

I have got them quarterly for at least this year.

It's true that not all members get them each time. I find that at least one member of my family gets them each time they are sent out, sometimes more than one. Flybuys are more likely to send them to members who don't shop there every week. They want to encourage members to spend with them each week and they think getting into the habit of using the coupons will create this habit and give them long term benefits after the coupon promotion. We set up our spending pattern so that it looks like we aren't shopping at Coles each week and therefore get coupons on a more regular basis than others and coupons which are closer to our spending pattern than other members get.

Coles probably also want members to show some sort of regular pattern or the occasional spend over $30 in order to get an idea of their spending capabilities before they will issue 12 weeks worth of coupons.
