Flybuys Targeted Bonus Promotions

Flybuys still maintaining one time use spend $130 for 2000 or spend $120 for points.

I'm not playing this game. I'll wait for next gift card promotion but not shopping at Coles except for a few things.

New offer:
- spend $60 for 2 weeks earn 2,000 points or
- spend $100 for 2 weeks (starting today) earn 3,000 points.

Definitely prefer 4 week offers for 10,000 points.

My sister got 2 week offers but with much higher spends and for more points.
For the avoidance of any confusion, I'm not your sister, but I got:

- spend $210 for 2 weeks earn 6,000 points or
- spend $250 for 2 weeks earn 9,000 points.

I'd like to see a feature in the app where one could choose not to hide the offer but provide immediate feedback such as "Offer stinks, won't bother".

I'm not sure what Coles is trying to do but they're doing a good job of keeping us away

One account

- spend $150 a week x 2 weeks for 4000 bonus points
- or spend $190 a week x 2 weeks for 6000 bonus points

Noooo....

That’s why I got too, also a no thanks!

Of course you will do this anyway, but for those who are less knowledgeable - when you don't activate such an offer make sure you only put through a miserly amount on that FB account (say $8 to $10) so the system sees a good drop in your spend. Put the rest of your spend through as a separate transaction without using any FB card (if you've only got one separate account).

Otherwise is people still swipe their card and spend close to the regular target spend then there's no reason for Coles to 'incentivise' you.

Yes @RAM that is good advice and that is what we do anyway.

I'm really struggling to understand where they get $150. Can't be from gift cards I bought more than a month ago. Anyway what would I know.

Then make sure you don't use your usual CC or your spend will track anyway.

They could be using data from the same period in prior years, and/or it could be confused by those gift cards. I wouldn't rule it out

Now that would be interesting if they have adopted the approach that CCs used to use to convert (brainwash?) clearers to revolvers.

In this case they're using the 'addiction' to points to increase their share of wallet, and most likely (for the non-AFF world) lead to much greater food wastage.

Prior to the change in legislation about having to opt-in for credit limit increase offers - CC companies would track the seasonality of your purchases and then offer you credit limit increases (by what the pyschs said were not 'bell-ringing' amounts) a few weeks before you typically increased your spending.

So if you normally planned & bought your holiday airfares/accom etc in April then you'd get limit offers in mid to late March.

The trick (devious, twisted, evil...) was to apply the 'death of a thousand cuts' to users habits. Or the 'boiling frog' approach - encourage you to spend ever increasing amounts until you reach the limit level where you spend more than you can pay in full by the due date. Some of the less caring issuers would aim for two or three limit increases past this point so that you're really hooked.

Does anybody else wonder if the new gen operations like AfterPay are a variation on this theme?

Possibly not quite as dangerous, comparing supermarket points schemes to credit providers, but yes they wouldn't exist for fun - Coles and we operate them to increase profit via changing your spend. So it's the same psychology!

Is everyone still getting offers from flybuys?
I got the last 4 week offer, but have since only got liquorland offers.
Crazy thing is my Coles spend has dropped off a lot since they renovated our local store so if anything, I thought I’d be getting incentives to spend more with them.

Same was a little dry until last couple weeks, but there being little ambitious with spend requests or their algorithms are up sheet creek.
I'm not participating as of yet.

Very little in the way of offers for our two cards, conversely there seems to be more EDR offers coming in but still not that generous either i.e 2weeks @ $60 for 4000

I got a two week $80 for 3000 points/$120 for 4500 points last week, so the offers are still coming in.

Spent $122 on Saturday and Monday to qualify but annoyingly, the bonus points haven't arrived (despite the bumf saying that they'd arrive after the week 2 shop). Have reached out to CS.

I'm switching back to EDR for a few weeks as they're offering a two week $60 for 4000 point offer for me too.

Should be another '4 week' (5 weekend) offer either next week or the week after if their algorithm continues as in previous years.

The 'wrinkle' this year is trying to entice you to spend more for less points (the two week offers). Less alert shoppers will have been hooked and likely will see the next 4-week offer with a spend level +$20/week more for the impending 10K offer.

Gotta love the 'free casino' that is FBs.
