Hi all,

I am flying CZ tomorrow (BNE-CAN) in premium economy and trying firm up lounge access rules. I hold Qantas Club card, Virgin Platinum and recently status matched into Alitalia Freccia Alata Plus Club
which is part of sky team as is China Southern.

My understanding of the sky team access rules is that I should get lounge access using the Alitalia card, however I am wondering if anyone else has used this ?

Itinerary is booked with CZ and earning Sky Pearl points as this will a regular trip for me in the coming months.

Cheers
Dave.

Update from first hand experience this morning. CZ have no idea about the AZ card as it doesn't appear on their 2011 printed card. After 10 mins of them trying hard to help we worked out that the design has changed and at the reps request I emailed the updated design to them.

However they do not have a lounge sharing deal in BNE so you sit in the Brisbane bar n grill with a $40 voucher....not so bad.

Out of interest I went to Air New Zealand and the Qantas club as both are listed in the sky team website.....no access allowed to either regardless of what the website said.

Will be interesting to see what happens on my flights within China and return.

Cheers

Thanks for the update... unfortunately not a smooth process. I wonder if there is a lounge for business class passengers? (I suspect there must be!)

You're not going to have issues at main-line stations. Skyteam is big in China, with both China Southern and China Eastern as members... so recognition won't be an issue.

However... when you say 'within' china... do you mean domestic? From the website it appears that domestic flights are excluded from access... unless the domestic flight is connecting to or from an international flight (same day).

  • SkyTeam Elite Plus members, regardless of their travel class, are allowed access to a SkyTeam lounge at a particular airport if traveling on or connecting to/from a same-day international flight operated by a SkyTeam member airline. Simply present your same-day ticket for an international SkyTeam airline flight and a valid Elite Plus membership card.
    • Access to a lounge must be within a 24-hour window before the scheduled departure time of the flight at the airport in question
    • Lounge access will be provided only at your departure airport and not on arrival, unless you are connecting to a domestic flight or other qualifying international flight

Hi MT.....there isn't a business class lounge either. Apparently CZ used to share the Air NZ lounge but that's finished.

Will update further as my trip progresses.

Cheers
Dave

Update if anyone is interested. I had no luck at CAN when on domestic to SHA. No luck in SHA. And just now had no problems in CAN prior flight home tonight.

That seems to fit with lounge access for international, but not domestic flights. Although theoretically access should be allowed for a domestic flight immediately connecting to international.
