Thought members might like to know that earlier this week we had a soft launch of reciprocity of benefits between VS Flying Club and Velocity. So Silver or Gold Flying Club members flying DJ/VA receive the same benefits as Velocity Silver/Gold and vice versa.

Virgin Atlantic Airways - Popup
Velocity - Perks on Virgin Atlantic

This summray is from an internal email:
Virgin Atlantic Flying Club takes off with V Australia and Virgin Blue

Effective 1 February 2010, VS Flying Club Gold and Silver Members will receive the same benefits as Velocity Gold and Silver Members:
Priority Check-in:
Flying Club Gold Members may check-in via International Business queue regardless of fare class on VA.
Flying Club Silver Members may check-in via International Premium Economy queue regardless of fare class on VA.
Flying Club Gold and Silver Members may check-in via the Priority Check-in queue regardless of fare class on DJ.
Priority Baggage:
Flying Club Gold Members receive International Business Class baggage tags regardless of fare class on VA.
Priority Boarding:
Where applicable, Flying Club Gold Members may be invited to priority board anytime on VA and DJ.
Lounge Access:
Flying Club Gold Members may enter The Lounge with one Guest at any of our six lounge locations.
Velocity Gold and Silver members also receive similar benefits flying on Virgin Atlantic - making Velocity even more rewarding and relevant to frequent fliers.

Great news Dave!

Any chance that it will be possible to earn status on VS any time soon?

EDIT: Scrap that, it appears from the link that you do now????

Actually Dave i think someone should edit the table on this page:

Velocity - Virgin Atlantic

I don't think that should say "Status Credits Per Flown Mile" on that table. if that's accurate, (4000 per FLOWN MILE in economy - i'm about to do the mother of all status runs!)

Excellent, could qualify gold before you even get to cruising altitude

Good work Dave.

Any chance of some status matching with DJ for QF Plats and Golds?

It already happens and it is possible. (Not my personal experience, though)

DJ Golds getting into VS's LHR T3 Clubhouse is a good plus! Does this also apply to VS Arrivals lounges (I think VS have one in LHR and not sure where else in the world....)?

Also, do DJ Golds (or VS FC Golds for that matter) get any extra baggage allowance bonuses across any of the Virgin group/Delta/other Velocity partners?

Great news!

Now I dont feel so bad after being rejected when I asked for a status match with FlyingClub.

Hi there

Who needs a status match with status credit earning like that.

SYD-LHR-SYD about 20,000 miles
Y=8 million SC
PE=62.5 million SC
J= 250 million SC

The taxi to the end of 34L at SYD would get you gold if in J
Cheers

YOu'd think they'd have fixed it by now. Risks a whole new group of people shocked to discover that they haven't turned Gold! Probably not a good look.

"I'm filing a lawsuit because DJ won't honour the fact that a mere trip on VS from SYD to HKG in J would get me instant Gold and more.

I didn't think the figures on their website were an obvious mistake!"

This isn't the first time that Velocity have gotten the information pages wrong and moreover got it wrong on initial deployment. Where's the QA department gone? Maybe they should put a big E&OE all over their website......

I think one way in Y would get you there on those figures. It is an obvious mistake and would obviously be a little absurd but you never know - someone might try it and with a good enough lawyer.

Table heading will be fixed today. Thanks for pointing it out (and good luch with the legal case)
cheers

Dave,

A quick question: do these benefits apply on all Virgin Atlantic flights or only those operated by their own metal?

Got to go to the UK in April and was looking at options on the Virgin Atlantic site and quite a few of the return legs are via Singapore on SQ metal. Can you confirm whether the lounge access and points would still be accrued if i booked that?

Now to get a status match and to use the benefits.

Off the top of my head (will check) I would say only VS metal. For example when travelling on SQ-operated flights the lounge will be the SQ lounge and we don't have an agreement directly with them.

What about the other way; I am Flying Club member and need to top up a few points.
If I go Virgrin Blue, do I get tier credits or just points? Seems a little vague on the VS site thats all (and their email system must be broke all this week as they not replied)

The VS website is contradictory when it comes to earning Tier Points on DJ.
On the Virgin Atlantic Airways - Popup page it has the little asterisk with the explanation that tier points earned on partners:
Flying Club said:
*Excludes Virgin Blue
.

Yet further down on the same page you get the following table under the heading Virgin Blue:
VIRGIN BLUE

Cabin Under 2,000 miles flown Over 2,000 miles flown
Economy Class 0 1
Premium Economy Class 1 2
It would be interesting to know just how much you do earn and whether you can earn the 1 tier point on any fare in economy class over 2,000 miles (basically SYD PER and not much else).

Exactly my question; I have 12 points this year and happy to do a quickie to bost them to silver. But then looks like its a trip to LA to make it based on their website (and lack of response)
