Hi all,

I have pretty much only ever flown Qantas, Jetstar and Air Pacific (Using QF codeshare). For an up coming work trip I will be flying Sydney-Hong Kong-Malpensa (return) on CX in Y :(.

1. Can I only check in at CX counters? Which ones?
2. Is there any extra baggage allowance being OWE?
3. Which is the best lounge in Hong Kong? Can I take a guest in or is it just me? Outbound from Sydney I guess I can take a colleague travelling with me in the F lounge.

Thanks for any assistance.

1 - yes only CX check in and only biz check in as there is no f check in
2 - no extra bags
3 - all the CX lounges are good just go to the one closest to your gate. You can take a guest

Thank for the quick response. A bit stingy with 20kg baggage allowance but oh well.

Had many a flight with CX. I think they are a great airline and you should enjoy the flights. We've never had a problem with baggage overweight however, have never travelled other than J from OZ.....have done many a whY regional and again never had any dramas.....bags always filled to around 25+kgs & sometimes a couple of them each.

The two F lounges are good. I've not experience their new "The Cabin" lounge and from reports it looks very good - so for me since I've been to the others I would head straight there....enjoy.

The Cabin Lounge is a great Lounge..very unusual deign & fab food. Was in the Pier a few weeks ago fir CX Regional Int flight & that was great as well.

One Baggage is very annoying allowance Have a Y fare week after next but J is still only 30kgs where as I can fly on a $120 fare to AKL with 32kgs on QF

Enjoy.

I always fly CX in Asia Pacific if I can help it... I always receive better customer service than QF, plus about 75% of the time I get op-upped as a OW Emerald when in Y! ;)

CX F Lounges in HKG are also great.

There is no CX First Check-in at SYD? Interesting as they have an F check-in at most airports I have visited.

From my experience CX is very generous when it comes to luggage allowance. Not saying you need to go overboard but I have had luggage and golf clubs at ~25-27kgs and nothing was mentioned.

And I feel obliged to add my 2c everytime this topic comes up. I have not had a single op-up from economy on CX as a Qantas Platinum. I have had a few op-ups business to First but that is not quite the same jump.

I assume they don't have a first class check-in at SYD since they don't have any first class cabin services to/from Australia. They only have F check-in facilities at airports where they operate Flights with F cabins.

they have first class check-in in Bangkok, even on days when no first class is operating, same for Seoul.

CX does offer First Class on some services to/from BKK and ICN. So they need the capability for F class check-in. They do not offer First Class on any flight to/from any port in Australia on any day, so no need for F check-in at any Australian ports.

Well, I've never managed to get an op-up from J to F on CX, so makes us even! :p

A quick note on CX lounges at HKG - The Cabin is great for food, drinks and tarmac views but has no showers. The Wing was being renovated when I was there a month ago, so didn't get to see much of their facilities. The Pier has the best showers - beautiful big room and nice products.

For my two bob, I do as well with CX as I do with QF on int.

When we fly CX we are OWE not QF Plats, worth noting that both CX and AA respect the OWE standing IMHO.

CX first s nothing to slouch at!

I can 100% confirm that CX do not have F check in at SYD. It is not a decision factor for me but it does deflate me slightly flying CX ex-SYD - then I get on board the new J class and you could almost be in F...

As a OWE always travelling in J, I have found CX to be (within reason) fairly flexible with the luggage limits. Of course you should always plan accordingly to posted limits and view anything more as the gracious gesture it is.

I checked in one day with CX 20kg over. the chap said to me Mr Sprucegoose, you are overweight. I smiled, thanked him and walked off..........at least they had a sense of humour!!

I flew CX for the first time to/from Moscow via HKG in Oct in Y. On all four flights, I got a special OWE welcome, and some offers of ensuring I got my meal selection, or a champers from J. I liked the Wing, especially on my way to Moscow, as I scored a Cabana for my shower. I did score an op up to J on the final floght, which was lovely.
I did try to check out the Cabin while in HKG, and I'm sure I could have gotten in, but the hostess lokked at my Flounge/OWE lounge entry pass, and said there was no Flounge here & pointed me towards the Wing.

Typical, stand your ground and make a scene. you'll get in as you are entitled!!

I like the Cabin, there is always next time.

I like CX. Not too overbearing but quite attentive and consistent.

Glad you enjoyed yourself and got a few perks. This is just a game after all!!

reading the post I think the lounge attendant was trying to be helpful. Not denying access. Pointing the guest to the OWE lounge not the OWS.
