These days, J is the new F yes.

But look at J (heck, even some Y+) today compared to the F of yesteryear. It's streets ahead still!

The airline business is very cyclical. I'm willing to bet F will come back, but it'll be J moving to F, Y+ moving to J and a new Y+ coming in, each being better than it's previous incarnation. It seems to be the way of the industry.

Assuming we retain classes, the yes, this is what will happen.

They also didn't have international business, food being freighted around the world to fill holes where food could not be grown/acquired.

Industrialisation has done a lot for the world. It's like saying people survived before the Internet. They did, but take it away today, and society would quite literally crumble.

...and historically, each civilisation has done exactly that - crumbled.

Somewhere in the future, we are going to hit a wall with resources (oil is one, but things like phosphate etc are also subject to the same supply issues).

Yes, civilisation based on the leadership of a regime may have crumbled, but humanity has survived thus far. Thus crumbling of civilisation could be referred to as simply a shakeup of leadership.

Running out of oil, or the internet dying and never been able to be restored (and not through a natural replacement technology) would certainly cause a shakeup, and civilsation as we know it would certainly change, but we as a species would continue.
