A friend just e-mailed me to point out that Flying High is on TV tonight...(2230 on Ten)

(He knows I rarely watch anything other than Top Gear...)

Hmmmm.... plenty of room on the hard drive......

I had to look what that was, but I’m sure I’ve seen it before, many years ago… I’ve set it to record on the iQ anyway, cheers! :D

Surely you can't be serious...

... I am serious - and don't call me Shirley.

This woman has to be gotten to a hospital.

A hospital? What is it?

It's a big building with patients, but that's not important right now.

It was actually called Airplane in most markets, sigh, looks like I picked the wrong week to quit smoking/drinking/amphetamines

"Cream?"

"No thanks... I take it black...... Like my men."

"Excuse me sir, there's been a little problem in the coughpit…"

"The coughpit…what is it?"

"It's the little room in the front of the plane where the pilots sit, but that's not important right now."

I actually have this on DVD (got it long ago as an import). The directors commentary is brilliant.

Useless trivia from the commentary:

* The white zone/red zone voices are the actual people who recorded the LAX voices back in the 70's.
* In one shot you can see the camera man quickly pulling the cable out of shot as it was filmed at LAX and they were not permitted to close anything in the terminal
* The sound of the plane engines are props not jet. The original script called for a prop plane but the studio believed it would be better if it was a jet. The compromise was a jet with prop sounds
* The marshal ushering the 747 in and the guy talking to him are the Zucker Brothers (David and Jerry, The writers)
* The shot of the runway on approach is LAX. LAX allowed them one hour overnight to film it and it was filmed in a helicopter
* The 747 running into the window is a 2/3 size replica made from paper mache.
* Only one airline actually bought it for in-flight entertainment. I can't remember which one but aeromexico seems to ring a bell (I'd have to watch the film again)
* The 707 was a re-painted TWA jet and now resides in Texas in a museum.

Brilliant movie. I've watched it so many times I swear I know it line for line (along with one other non-aviation related movie).

Roger, Roger. What's our vector, Victor?

Joey, do you like movies about gladiators?
and of course
Joey, have you ever been in a... in a Turkish prison?

Classic !

Do you like when Scraps jumps on your leg and, rubs up and down?

The Tower? The Tower?!?! Rapunzel... RAPUNZEL!!!

Bad week to quit smokingg
Bad week to quit glue sniffing.

The list goes on.

And i love the otto-pilot!

He's coming right for us........

Captain Over, Captain Unger. Captain unger, Captain Dunne.

Over, Unger, Unger, Over, Under, Dunne.....

I was under Unger, and I was under Dunne....:)

Oh god, there's so many. :D

+1 on the "looked like I picked the wrong week to ..xx_xx_.."

"I was under Over, and Over was under Dunne" I think it was ;)

I believe it also made it to one of the funniest movies of all time in a movie survey thing a few years back. Easy to see why:)

Interestingly, channel 7Two had "Soul Plane" on at the same time, which is basically the same film, just not as funny.

Welcome to AFF Mendel!

Have to say, in a somewhat alarming admission, I've never seen Flying High. I've seen other Zucker Bros movies (Kentucky Fried Movie, Top Secret etc.) and found them hilarious, but FH and me have just never been in the same room at the same time. Something to look forward to I suppose. :)

"...what do you make of this???"

"Oooh... a hat or a brooch or a pterodactyl...."

I actually think Top Secret is a much better movie (amazing how many people have never heard of it!) but Flying High is certainly up there...

..and I now have to admit that - as the thread starter.... I nodded off on the couch while reading and forgot to set up the recording!!!

And the press reporters "let's grab some pictures", pictures hanging on the wall are snatched up.
(I guess some things never change :p)
