Flying Jetstar with Qantas Status

Starter Plus can be quite reasonable.

Agreed - only cost me ~$15 more on JQ35 from memory. For SCs, points and priority boarding, not bad.

KUL-SIN-KUL cost me about $20 more each way for the plus bundle, and that apparently includes a meal (not that you really need a meal for a 1hr flight)!

Yesterday there were flights OOL to SYD for $13 plus $17 for plus. I reckon that's pretty good for what you get. Just wasn't sure if it was a waste buying plus if status gives you same benefits anyway. Evidently, you need to buy plus for any benefits.

You need plus for the points and SCs, but lounge access is available on any fare type, provided you have the right membership/status level.

Cheers.

QF status should count for something on JQ, after all, it is a 'Qantas Group Airline', but status pax would be the last thing JQ would care about!

How hard would it be for JQ to offer priority check-in for SG/WP? Complimentary seat selection on-line- front and exit row? This wouldn't extend to OW, but seriously, how many high status QFFs are going to be on the average JQ A320? Merely a handful...

What about elite's in 'Jetstarised' ports - NTL, OOL etc.?

And while they're at it - fix the earning ability. 'Plus' fares earn on JQ and 3K but not BL and GK (Japan)? One-in=all-in! Yes they may be 'seperate' airlines but they all look the same to Joe Public, so how about a little consistency

Can you please stop it with all this talk about logic and common sense. It simply does not apply.

JQ may as well be FarQ

I miss the days where you could buy a cheap JQ international fare (like $70 to SIN) and then pay for an on departure upgrade on checkin (fixed at $400) for a full QF business SC earning, lounge access flights.

I'll say! I've had some enjoyable & well priced flights to BKK, enjoying on departure upgrade & nice J SC earn.

Checking out what Jetstar has to offer lately was a bit of a shock - the "cheapest" return flight MEL>BKK I could see in J was $1,770  with $400 of that being for the pleasure of earning SC & lounge access (Max Bundle). Wow.

I wonder how many people get unwittingly stuck with the Max Bundle on international, as it's automatically ticked to start with - you have to specify you don't want it.

QFF .... Fly ..... JQ .... Nah!!

OOL? Would rather fly MEL-BNE and drive past OOL on my way down to Byron than fly the Orange mob. Had far too many enforced delays in my MEL-NTL-MEL days when QF withdrew QantasLink and handed the route to JQ - oh, you still have to be at the airport 30mins prior to the scheduled departure - even though you know the aircraft hasn't departed MEL yet! Then there are the lies when an aircraft goes US at OOL ... "Due to the delay of the incoming flight ...." BS .... "Due to and aircraft going US here, and you deferring passengers on a rolling 1hr delay, until you run out of aircraft and then bump everyone on the last flight to at least the next day" more like - but don't bother telling people as they check-in and can actually do something about it, delay them for an hour past their scheduled departure time first ... I watched that little one unfold one afternoon/evening as they delayed flight after flight after flight. Have lost count of the number of times I've picked a JQ passenger up at MEL or escorted them to the Gate, only to find the flight delayed.

HBA? These days I give my money to DJ if I want to get there at a decent time in the morning - never used to happen but, QF Group, you introduced the concept of "choice" (ie lack of loyalty) and - from my perspective and, judging by the declining pax numbers the CEO continues to moan about - I make it. Never JQ.

BD

Used to have similar delayed experiences but lets be fair..the demon of the sky is Tiger. I flew JQ the other week from Syd-Mel return with no issues. On time departure and early arrival -- the way we like it!

on a JQ hate note -- i stupidly forgot to take the bundle when booking and tried adding the plus bundle to a starter flight just 10 mins after...

"sorry sir, but you'll have to cancel and start over, that will mean you need to pay a cancellation cost on top of a new flight + bundle"...
"but the tickets havent been isssued yet?"
"that's our process sir"

You mean Australias most punctual airline for the last few months, and one that is about to return to HBA?

By mistake, I once drove by the shed that Tiger use as a Terminal at MEL (was trying to waste time waiting for someone to arrive) - that's as close as I ever want to get to those fellows!

You do realise that by flying JQ MEL-SYD, you're only encouraging them ... ??

I was left with little choice in this instance given I booked the flight about 2 hrs before i had to leave and QF was insanely expensive...but on the upside they did get me there on time! :)
