Flying from BNE to PER on my Birthday so decided a points upgrade would be the thing to do. The wonderful person at the BNE Business lounge processed my upgrade then said there would be no deduction of points. Combination of Fully flex fare paid, WP and/or Birthday maybe but end result is one very happy QF customer and a very enjoyable flight. :p
 
Well done for the upgrade. Pretty sure that just saved you 16000 points!
