Flying QR and crediting to VA, but with QF lounge access?

I have an interesting question which someone here may have experienced. I hold both VA Platinum and QR Platinum (OneWorld Emerald) cards and am flying QR in Y out of MEL soon. I know QR redirect VA Platinums to the Marhaba lounge, though under OW rules I would have access to QF First Lounge with my QR Platinum card. My question is has anyone successfully visited the QF First Lounge (or Business Lounge) while flying QR Y, but accessing with a OW Platinum card and crediting to VA?

I think Qatar uses Amadeus so in theory it should be possible to have both numbers added (by customer service, not yourself).

But you'd want to be very careful this was done correctly...there'd be no fixing it after the fact.

  • FQTS – the frequent flyer program that you have status with
  • FQTV – the frequent flyer program with which you’re accruing points & status credits

Slightly different scenario perhaps but last year I was flying QF J ex-SYD and listed my QR status-matched WP status to access the QF First Lounge as I'm QF NB. Then, after a few hours of lounging I headed down to the QF Business Lounge and had them change the QR number to my QF number, in the vain hope I'd be able to build some status in QF moving forward. It never happend, but I did collect the QF SCs and points anyway.

It's not this specific scenario but I've definitely tried to get lounge access when flying DL, crediting to DL (with no status) but then I just went to the lounge, showed my AF ElitePlus card and the lounge staff did something on her computer and let me through. Instead of messing with adding various different FQTN to your booking I suspect this will be the easiest option and have a decent chance of success.

I still got the miles credited to my DL account without any problem.

Yes I have flown out of SYD in economy on a QR flight, crediting to VA while showing my digital QR Platinum at the desk at the QF F lounge. They entered something on their computer and let me and a guest in. Also did it for a QR codeshare operated by CX at a Cathay F lounge in HKG. I gather this is all standard under Oneworld lounge access rules. May come unstuck at third party lounges though.

Thanks everyone, extremely helpful. I have read about FQTS/FQTV though never actually properly looked into it.

It sounds as though u/clarkkent has done exactly what I am wanting to do with no issues, so thank you for your help!

My QR status is about to expire so this will be my last trip to the QF First Lounge for a while I think.

Just as an add-on, it definitely gets unstuck when you're cross alliance on specific partner benefits.

I remember going to JL lounge in HND while flying MU (who uses JL) crediting to DL where my status is. But for some strange reason my BP didn't show DL eliteplus so their system only showed me as a non status passenger and they couldn't access skyteams network. Had to call the MU desk and get the MU personnel to check in their systems about my status and eligibility.
