Flying with a cold

I agree with other posters, purchase a set or ear planes. The pain of being unable to equalise is beyond belief. I nearly terminated my connecting flight but was saved by ear planes purchased at the new agents at BNE. I also recommend pseudoephedrine or other equivalent as a back up and take a box of tissues. While I'm not a medical practitioner, having had the flu and an acute hayfever reaction this is the best I can offer you. If your really hard up grab a prescription of Nasonex nasal spray. All of that combined will see your nasal passage dryer than the Antarctic polar region!

Ear Planes as suggested. I also used to ask the FA if they had any of 'those smelly things' and rip them open and sniff them.

I'm not sure what they were exactly, smelt like tea tree or eucalyptus. They look like a screen cleaner in a little foil packet. This worked for me. I've not had to ask for them for a few years now though, so unsure if they still carry them.

Vicks Vapordrops are awesome. Make sure you take cold and flu tablets a bit before you have to get on the plane. I also use nasal drops (note, not the spray) by Otrivin as these will clear your sinuses out in a matter of minutes (these can only be used for 3 days consecutively otherwise you'll get rebound rhinitis which is seriously bad).

I have a cold as well with a blocked nose that started yesterday.

I have never had an issue travelling with colds in the past and apologies if anyone is inconvenienced. Unfortunately I can't stay home in Sydney as I need to be at work tomorrow in Brisbane. For what it is worth I am feeling better so cold may have gone by this evening.
