cabin luggage/not checked

I am going to try and just take carry on bag w/out wheels o/seas and take bag in cabin. The bag with wheels weighs too much and doesn't allow much clothes as we all know. I did a dummy run in my packing and less than 4 kilos weight.

I am hoping to do lots of walking from place of disembarkation to lodging. I would prefer not to be lugging the bag from place to place if possible. I used to have one of those fold out luggage holders with wheels yrs. ago. I seem to remember I was able to take it on board also.

My ? is, has anyone ever found any of these prehistoric luggage holders recently and if I do find one, is it still the policy to take it on board as carry on?
cheers

I have not seen one of these for some time. I did a few web searches and found nothing. Short of scouring the op-shops of your neighbourhood or lashing octopus straps to some Rollerblade or something you may be out of luck.

Have you considered lighter luggage? I bit the bullet (and the $$$ :-|) for a rollaboard only 2 kg and have not looked back.

My wife bought one of these "prehistoric luggage holders" for my daughter's school bag a couple of years ago, so I believe they are still available. It didn't last terribly long, but probably enough for one o/s trip. I am not sure where she purchased it, but if you are interested I can find out. I don't know the policy re taking on board, but the size should not cause any issues.

Re: cabin luggage/not checked

I invested in one of those back-packs with wheels.

Very light and versatile.

Wouldn't go anywhere without it now.

Re: cabin luggage/not checked

thanks guys for the information. i had thought of a rollerboard, hadn't priced them as yet. i'm a bit concerned getting bag that will be hefty to lift up for an old woman. would ya'all think it would be pretty effortless for either the rollerboard or the suggested backpack with wheels. guess it's hard to reply to such a generic ?.

i'm not infirmed, pretty active actually, just don't have as much strength in my arms as i used to.
cheers,
tp

I'm sure either another passenger or a FA will help you get it up anyway. Most people are accommodating in that way.

Re: cabin luggage/not checked

If it is too heavy to lift up for you then it is more likely to get weighed as it will "look" heavier...

Also if it is too heavy to lift into an overhead you might find that it will be too heavy lugging around the airport.

I found my old folding luggage carrier, a bit sad and sorry looking, but still works. ;)

I can't remember how many yrs. ago I last used it. Apparently I did check it in on the last trip used as there is still a baggage tag on it.

My ? is can I take it into the cabin with my carry on bag? I'll be flying qf trip over and back to us and then aa domestic in states.
cheers,
trish

On flights to/from/within the USA, you are permitted to carry on board 1 bag (e.g. Rollaboard) and 1 Personal item (e.g. Handbag, Laptop)

If your luggage carrier would fold and can fit inside either of those two items then you'd be fine.

In any case, you would simply roll your carry on bag on board, detach it from the frame and store both up in the lockers. Reverse the process when disembarking. I can't see any issue with this.

thanks serfty, i hadn't thought of that option, magic. no different really to taking cabin bag in with attached wheels.
cheers
