He does based on the restaurant reviews he gives in the latest Qantas magazine.

wow. then I really don't understand how the food can be so off sometimes. perhaps they know he is coming?or may e the crew recognize him and somehow do a better job with his food than ours...

Guys,

If the serves are too big, just eat half or skip a course. As for the wine, I have always had FULL glasses so yes you can get a bit of a upset stomach with too much rich food and too much wine. These are long flights. Tell the FA to bring a course every 30 minutes and to pour just a half glass, eat each course slowly and watch the wine. Not nice chucking up a 8 course degustation menu in the F loo.

I have eaten 4 or 5 such QF F meals and have always enjoyed them. Maybe I have been lucky. Looking forward to my next in just over 1 month.

Others have said it is not necessary to call the First Desk but I have always done so and have never been disappointed. This is "FIRST CLASS" after all. It is more than just a nice seat, bed and F PJs. It is about SERVICE, so live it up, don't be afraid to ask for what you desire and enjoy the experience. I do.

I agree rockyroad - I often eat well in the F lounge so am not in the mood for more food on board - I might burn another few points next time I have a chance to fly in F ex-SYD...

Yes the FLounge can be a disaster if you load up on food and drink. I try to eat lightly and the same with the drink, knowing what is to come. Plenty of trips to the FLounge to do that, so I skip an FLounge pig out and save it up for the degustation and the wines on board. Much more enjoyable.

Well just to further pad this thread I thought I would reflect that almost 6 years ago I stumbled on this site, refusing to credit to AA, having never flown a premium long haul int'l segment, having never been Op Upped (not much change there QF :-|), had foolishly asked someone if they were QF top tier - GOLD I thought, didn't even know that F lounges existed but also believed that the hostess got younger and perkier the close you got to the aircraft nose... 10,000 posts later here we are debating the best way to enjoy the degustation in QF F!

Thanks AFF and everyone who helped me, my family and my loose selection of affiliated individuals enjoy, experience, endure my travels. Special mentions must go to:

serfty (for the serftymobile)
NM (for the general encyclopaedic knowledge of aircraft seating - and not mentioning the bus)
Lindsay Wilson (for the great transfer to AAdvantage)
That Chick on BA10 (for being the first attractive seat buddy I have had - and surprisingly being the first random stranger (non-AFF) I have guested into a lounge - obviously the two events are not connected)
The ever so slightly camp CSD on BA (after we were upgraded to F due to issues and then looked after "his poopsie" [aka my wife] who was not well)
Baggage Handlers around the world (for being so inept that I discovered the joys of Hand Luggage Only)
The stunning crew on CX in F (whose biggest flaw was requiring me to hold down the food trolley during turbulence whilst they quennelled the sour cream for with the smoked salmon)
CX (for just being)
CX (for the win and the Pier)
Marc Newsom (for the SYD F lounge)
QF009 (for being the first AFFer I met)
My G+T Guy at the Conrad in HKG (for the hugs)
My Drivers (for waiting 3 hours for me at SYD after I changed flights and forgot to tell and then never billing me for it - I spend $400/month on average with them now...)
The AA Pilot that plays a Train whistle on take off - all aboard!
medhead (for just being medhead)

There are many more I am sure and if you are a friend on Facebook then you know who you are

However dishonourable mentions go to

Neil Perry (for being able to make a soup that was both tasteless and tasted unpleasant at the same time)
Neil Perry (for the food in J)
Neil Perry (for the duck and random assortment of spices overpowered by the chilli in the NPPP)*
Cabin crew that don't even try to read the menu and serve the food wrongly
Seat buddies that want to engage in conversation annoyingly from boarding until the first chance they get to move seats - guys if you are going to engage you should be in it for the long haul
Mumbai
Mumbai
Did I mention Mumbai?
Domestic whY for gods sake whY is there so much of it

As with the thanks there are another hundred people that could get a mention here - sadly they don't know who they are and what they could do to improve.

*Having "met" NP at the AFF/QFF lunch I actually have to say that he is a really nice person who simply has a different cooking philosophy to me

Did you enjoy the food at the AFF/QFF lunch? If so then I think you will be happy with what you get.

I tend to avoid beef in flight - especially in F as I want it to be good but the physics and chemistry and kitchen machinery just don't make it work. I think that is what put me off on the degustation - a large beef course midway...

I have to say that in my experience usually in F they have lost the plot with the beef, for reasons unknown, as I have had good beef in J.
