Have eaten there quite a lot and never had any issues. I would not like to have been in your place though.

G'day
just wondering if anyone has been sick from eating in any of the QANTAS lounges.

I was in the Qantas International lounge late March 2011 and ended up "sick as a dog"
I spent 4 days in bed ( one in a Thai Hospital ) recovering from acute diarohea. My case was so severe I was bleeding . Let alone being sick, let me tell you being overseas in this condition was one of the most frightening times of my life.
On my return I alerted Qantas what had happened and no surprise they did not want to take responsibility. In fact claiming I contracted food poisoning anywhere but there.
I know what made me ill and I would never set foot in that lounge ever again.
Great Job Customer care ! keep the great job up ! I bet none of them eat there themselves.
Just wondering if anyone here has had a similar experience
yours sincerely

I wouldn't ever step into a Sofitel Hotel ever again then, as these are the staff who prepare the food. If it was from the QF lounge food, majority of other people that day would've also had the same issue AFAIK.

Why are you so adament it was QF?

In fact [QF] claiming I contracted food poisoning anywhere but there.
Is there any proof that would be admissible in court that the poisoning was contracted as a result of the food consumed within a lounge operated by the airline in question?

Secondly, did you have travel insurance to adequately compensate you for expenses and disruption arising from succumbing to food poisoning and the subsequent hospitalisation?

With due respect to the OP, we get a lot of first time posters in here who level allegations at an airline, and often on closer inspection the story does not stand up to any scrutiny.

thanks OZ

the sad thing about it all, Customer Care at Qantas deny nothing likes this ever happens there. Seriously I could of died over someone's stupidity.

Well if you believe that to be the case, sue them then? Customer care can't say it was QF's food as it may not have been.
You seem to be pissed at their response, what are you after?

Although I guess the potential for food poisoning is ever present at the QP, the OP lacks a few details before any judgement can be made.
What was the time between eating at the QP and first feeling sick. There is usually a time frame that food poisoning can hit in (some of the training professionals on here could help us).

I have experienced Food Poisoning from the food at the PJ Hilton. They denied this much more than what QF sounds like it have done in your case. Yet my colleague suffered the exact same symptoms after eating the exact dinner.

I guess if it was an AU based QP, you should probably go through your health department, as (atleast in WA) they do look into these things.

Thank you for the heads up, Sofitel / QANTAS - either one could of made my wife a widow !.
With all respect, as soon as I ate some fetta cheese, it had a strange taste and I do eat a lot of Danish / Greek fetta cheese. Being with company I didnt spit it out ( wish I did now).
I do know what made me sick. Why didnt others get sick ? cant tell you. But I'm asking around !

Sorry to hear that something made you sick, however... No person on the phone is going to accept responsibility (and therefore liability). It isn't going to happen.

Unless other people were violently ill around the same time you are going to be hard pressed to prove anything. And as you don't have samples of the alleged offending food you will have virtually zero chance.

how long after you ate the cheese were you ill?

FWIW I have eaten hundreds of times at the lounges and haven't been sick.

Sounds like it could be Listeria, which is generally only found 3-70 days later, usually around the 3 week mark.

The origin of food poisoning can be very hard to trace unless you managed to keep a sample of all the food for at least three days prior to developing the symptoms, I would not be too quick to blame any party unless you have more concrete evidence, what was the diagnosis from the hospital for instance, was it Bacterial, Mycotoxin or perhaps even a foodborne pathogen or virus?

Hi Windchester
I understand mishaps happen, I would like to know if anyone else has been in the same situation.
Thanks for thoughts

Hi Windchester
Unless I had a time machine and went back for a piece of cheese, i could prove it was it.
I did have travel insurance but the costs are not worth claiming. I got to admit the people from Zurich Insurance were amazing and caring. I understand were ur coming from. I can assure you I would not spend valuable time in something I didnt believe in. Did I get sick - sure did, was there something not right prior to my illness - I can assure you it was the cheese. Just cant understand why CustomerCare Qantas deny anyone ever gets sick.

How long was it between eating the cheese and getting sick?

It's because they have a very high turn over of food, and nothing would be sitting out for hours at a time. The reason why i mentioned Sofitel in my pervious post was due to their very very high food standards and preperation.

Welcome to AFF Sick

I hope you stick around a bit longer than a couple of rant posts, but alas, your name wouldn't suggest that will be so - however, I offer you a hearty welcome!

Like many on this forum, I have eaten literally 1000's of times at Qantas lounges across Australia and the world. The lounge food I must say sometimes looks dodgy, but I have never been sick from it. As rightly pointed out, if you had of contracted food poisoning from the Fetta, so would have many others and there would be many complaints, however, there are not, so I would safely assume that you had either picked the issue up prior to leaving for your trip, on leg to your destination, or actually at your destination.

I feel for you and I am sure that being OS and hospitalised would suck. I hope you are better now, but I am equally sure you cannot blame Qantas.

Again, welcome to AFF

Thanks munitalP - much appreciated, BTW I like the nick and I'll think I'll keep it ! ; )

I'm not sure what you are after, I think you need to be very careful when making statements like those you made here. Like others here, I have eaten a number of times in these locations and while the food offer at times is not all that inspiring, I have certainly never had any issues with the safety of the food.
I am also reassured that it is a Sofitel offer, as they do have very high standards in both preparation and service of food.
Strange that there are no other comments arising from this day as I'm sure a number of others that read this will also have eaten in the lounge at this time.

My thoughts exactly...

In a forum you usually choose a nickname that you intend to use long-term; you don't typically see people using 'Fatty Boomba' as a handle if they open a topic about being denied boarding, because they are corpulently challenged.
