Flying QF 19 into Manila and then connecting to Qatar flight to Barcelona. Unfortunately, I have to clear customs get my bags and recheck in with Qatar as they don’t have a baggage inter- line agreement. Does anyone know if I need to apply for a Visa to do this?

Is SYD-MNL-DOH-BCN 1 reservation? Or 2 reservations SYD-MNL and MNL-DOH-BCN
QF do/can interline to QR if the same PNR.
On separate PNR's QF interline QF to QF, QF to EK and if one ticket is an award.

If going landside or even transit, will need to comply with Philippines border requirements.
If SYD-MNL is a separate reservation QF will want to check you are eligible to enter Philippines.

From Smartraveller:
  • You can enter the Philippines without a visa for a period of stay of 30 days or less, provided that you meet all of the requirements and certain conditions. Entry and exit conditions can change at short notice. You should contact the nearest embassy or consulate of the Philippines for the latest details.
  • You must register your travel to and from the Philippines on the eTravel Card online portal in order to receive a QR code to use for arrival and departure formalities.
EDIT: This is applicable for Australian citizens only

If you can not check bags through the make sure you have enough time between flights to exit and then go through security and immigration again. As others have said you will need the etravel QR Code. It is simple to do and from memory you can only do it within 72 hours of your flight. You get an email confirmation pretty quickly.

Our arriving flight was to Cebu so can not comment on how long to exit. Going through immigration at Cebu they did not ask for our QR code so guess that it showed up on the system.

Our departing flight was on Saturday 15 June 2024 on SQ in J at 7.40am. Had checked in at around 5.40am and it took us until 7.00am to get through security and immigration. No priority lines for J passangers. As we walked into the lounge they were calling our flight.

Others maybe able to comment on likely wait times to get through security and immigration if you advise your QATAR departure time.

No you don't need a visa if you got Australian passport. After luggage collection, exit, turn right and at the end of the terminal use the escalators or lifts up to departures.

Be aware that the immigration queue (T3) at check in is usually a 90 minute zoo in the afternoon/evenings. No one cares about foreign/Philippine passport queues and it takes ages to get through.
If short of time go right and check with staff if you can go through the diplomat/aircrew immigration lane instead. It is as far to the right as it gets (I always ask and so far I haven't been denied - helps to dress professional)...

Remember, you must do the online e-travel declaration. It takes 5 minutes but you need it to check in and immigration has it in their system. Since your not filippino you don't need to do it to depart Philippines.

if you have a full day, take the walkway across the road to Belmont hotel. They offer rooms at a reasonable rates and you can sleep a few hours, hit the pool or bar/restaurant.

Ive done a few "Y to MNL, J onward" trips on separate tickets, and have never needed a visa for the overnight in between. (AU Passport) Concur with the Belmont Hotel recommendation.

I will be travelling SYD-MNL on QF then MNL-DXB on EK, both in J. I’m hoping my luggage will check through to DXB because of QF/EK interline agreement. Do I still need to go through immigration? I have 6 hours in transit, both terminal 3

Transiting in MNL is quite funky. We transited terminal 3 in October CX to QF (HLO) with a four hour transit. I can’t say this is the standard process but when disembarking from the CX flight there was a bunch of airport staff hanging around with our names on a board. We were then escorted to the general immigration area and our escort left with our passports to “do the paperwork”. After about 20 mins he returned and we then went through a security check and a lift to the departures lounge level. Whilst there is a transit desk it didn’t seem to be staffed and from what I could see if we didn’t have the escort we would have been forced to go through immigration.

As an Australian citizen travelling on an Australian passport, I always register both my arrival and departure with the eTravel on-line service, even though departure registration is not required. The departure information I have entered then appears on the Immigration screen as I depart and the officer has nothing to enter, as its already there. They just compare the information and stamp the passport and I am on my way.

I also use the Belmont Hotel ever time I am arriving (and sometimes departing) MNL. Good value and very convenient with the pedestrian bridge (accessed from the top floor) directly to/from terminal 3. No taxi or Uber required and if you time it right they have a free golf buggy service that saves you the walk along and over the bridge.

That sounds ideal. Did you organise the escort beforehand and was your luggage check through to your final destination?

No it wasn’t pre organised. It seems to be an airport initiated service for transit pax but I don’t know how consistent it is. There is really limited and conflicting information available about transiting MNL so I just decided to see what happens with the fall back that I could complete the arrival information and go through immigration if we needed to.

We were hand luggage only and the escort did ask if we had checked luggage. I’m not sure what that would have done to the process if we did.

I'm doing the transit from QF (terminal 3) to WY (terminal 1) at stupid o'clock in February. Not looking forward to that! Luckily have 6 hour connection so shouldn't be time pressured.

Has anyone gone from Domestic to International at Terminal 3? Flying in on a domestic flight and then transferring to a CX flight. Tickets are not linked obviously. Have given about 4 hours transit time.

Wont have checked baggage so hand luggage only.

Do I have to exit the terminal to go up to departures and check in with CX or is there a transfer desk to spit me back out somewhere and save going out and then back in?

AFAIK Terminal 3 only handles international arrivals and departures so you will be doing a change of terminals. What terminal does you domestic ticket say the flight arrives at ?

We’ve returned from our trip and this is what happened.

Was able to convince QF agent at SYD to check our bags through on EK. However, an agent was waiting for us as we deplane in MNL with our names on board to escort us through immigration and customs as he said we needed to recheck our bags in MNL. I told him our bags are checked all the way through to DXB but he insisted we needed to recheck bags despite showing him our bag tag receipts. Lucky we did the etravel.

Queues were relatively short and was back at departure level in around 30 min. The check-in counter however was not opened so we needed to wait another 2 hours at terminal with limited seating to recheck bags.

It says Terminal 3. Its Cebu Pacific which I understand uses Terminal 3?

Yes Cebu Pacific do operate from T3 and they do operate both domestic and international flights. I am not sure how domestic arrivals are processed at T3 as I have never noticed a domestic lane.
