Has anyone heard any discussion about possible impact of European grape / wine production after the current long and severe winter? Yes, no grapes or leaves on vines of course, but I wonder if some regions might have had their actual vines killed or affected such that production this coming year might be noticeably affected?

If yes, might Australian grapes be a possible alternative source for some production, and put pressure on Australian grape / wine prices?

I'm far from an expert, but as I understand it the vines are pretty hardy and able to withstand some pretty atrocious conditions during winter. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will shortly put me in my place though :)

Interesting topic, from a quick google yes there can be an impact

Impacts of cold temperatures on wine grapes

My understanding though is that cold temps during winter itself is not so much a problem, what causes more problems is when the cold period happens after bud-burst, e.g. there has been a mild winter and the budding starts early and then there is a period of extreme frosts.

Fortunate that we've all stocked up by buying far more wine than we need or have space for.
