Forum tone

I just try and avoid the moaning and whinging/repetitive and PR agenda driven threads that I know are a- typical of certain members and that makes my experience more enjoyable!!

I couldn't agree more.

Overall the forum has become a bit negative, driven by some key players - I just blocked them! Now its fine!!

IMHO the forum's tone hasn't changed greatly.

There will always be people who disagree, and for that I'm always more than happy to argue over a point for 100 pages, provided it's the subject that's been argued over.
It's when an argument turns into personal attacks that I think it needs to be shut down, and I've seen (and thus exited gracefully from) a few threads where this has happened.

I tend also to think there has been no appreciable change in the forum's tone since I joined 6 or so years ago. You do get all types and it's generally a healthy thing for a forum like this to have them all. You get the benefit of peoples' experience as well as completely differing views on things...I like to take these onboard (and indeed contribute my own views, though I can't be bothered getting into extended arguments - too mnay other things to do) and decide where I think the cards fall.

That said, there are certainly some posts/posters I find offensive (gratuitously mostly, but some who must just be naturally occurring like that) in that they seem to revel in personal and sarcastic attacks on people ('keyboard hardmen' was a term I heard describing them) - sometimes these go too far IMHO, but I wouldn't encourage wholesale banning of members. You do need a reasonably thick skin, though that's no excuse for others to be rude.

Then of course there are the contrarians who can't help themselves. :)

All in all, in my limited experience of internet fora, I find AFF generally quite a civilised and friendly forum, and hope it stays that way.

Or my golf shorts which are certain to set a tone!

drron,
You will certainly give Ian Poulter a run for his money!
And those who criticised you for your shorts does not have any golf fashion sense!!;)

In keeping with the spirit of an online forum here’s the upcoming series of events, I have abridged 6 weeks of forum conversations for you all to save you all a lot of time:

  1. I Quit! - Please insert your own favourite rant here.
  2. I am back! - this time posing as a 18 year old hot chick.
  3. I got busted for posing as an 18 year old chick, I think the pictures of me in my hot pink tight golf shorts gave it away.
  4. So I Quit again, it really wasn’t me in the pictures, but damn I do need to lose a few pounds.
  5. I am back again this time, but posing as a middle aged overweight balding businessman, no disguise needed, and the perfect camouflage in the QF J dom lounge!

So if you see a overweight balding businessman(with or without van heusen) in the J lounge I am watching you……

Had that feeling I have been watched for a while, I swear I only took the two bean burritos and 1 magazine!

I had the same feeling and thought he must have peeked in the DJ Lounge

I will get flamed for this BUT - while I appreciate the length and depth of the generousity of spirit, and the sharing of knowledge, I do have this observation.

As a sworn off QF type of traveller, I do find that some died in the wool QF people are a bit sanctimonious towards anyone who flys another airline. Sure I get the bit about working hard to attain status, then you keep it, but this is a forum for Australian Frequent Flyers - not just Qantas Frequent Flyers.

I get so bored with people (even people who are not on this forum) who fly J* then complain about it, but then fly them again, and again, and again.

Vote with your credit cards and go to another airline if you are not happy.

I have to say that I have enjoyed the contributions of Boss Reggie - so sad to see him go.

Maybe we could all be a little more welcoming and less judgemental......

 Who are you to speak, you lowly 29 post Junior Member!

Belated welcome (from me) to AFF!

It is interesting to see the posts and threads from those who are predominantly travellers within AU, and I would agree that there is a reasonable amount of QF, J*, DJ love & hate within that sphere, some justified & some not.

Most of my (business related) travel over the past few years has seen me travel on many varied international and local (to the region) airlines. Believe me, QF, J* & DJ are way up the ranks when it comes to value for service. You need to travel on a really bad airline to fully appreciate and be happy with mediocre.

YMMV.
