? Fraudulent booking

Does seem a bit wierd that the address wasn't checked, just the name...

If it's worth doing, it's worth doing to excess

I had a somewhat similar issue with another Flight Centre aligned company - Stage and Screen Travel.
Accommodation in a NZ hotel had been deducted from my personal credit card.

I neither made the booking (a work one and not personal) nor had my personal CC been used on any previous work bookings.

Just one personal one to celebrate my 50th a few years ago.
SST couldn't explain it.

Do you mean that SST did your 50th birthday booking with the same cc that was used erroneously for the NZ booking?

Wonder if the NZ hotel can confirm if a guest with the same name stayed that night in house.

Thieves are getting very sophisticated these days because you can just be standing in close proximity to someone with a briefcase who has the gizmo that scans cards & steals all your precious info although apparently they have to have a steady surface to rest the reader on.

I was chatting to a guy recently who does contract security work & he showed me the cards in his wallet which were all in protective Korjo sleeves which shields them against the evil devices.

As I understand it, if you have multiple RFID chips in close proximity (i.e. Several credit cards in your wallet) it's impossible to get the information off them. There are also no verified reports of credit card theft using RFID scanning, and a US consumer report found aluminium foil worked better at blocking readers than the expensive anti-RFID theft stuff sold by travel gadget companies.

No names matched. Hotel in NZ couldn't shed any light but immediately refunded the amount - too late I had already cancelled the card. SST said it couldn't explain.

Did you ask why they are keeping your personal info and ask them to delete it!

This raises an interesting question as to how travel agents store customer information such as credit card details.

It would appear that thousands of employees of the Flight Centre Group eg FC, Great Escape, Cruiseabout etc have Carte Blanche when it comes to accessing the personal details of their customers.

I'd be interested to know what the law states re TA requirements for the storage of personal details of consumers.

Incredible and both Flight Centre I travel a lot and book many hotels always keep an eye on my CC details
