Free beverage because of my status

Good to see DJ giving a free drink to status passengers. Does it happen on all flights or is it up to the crew to remember where the status passengers are sitting?

.

Have been told by a crew member that they have been given the go-ahead to offer gold status a free non alcoholic beverage, if no golds onboard, then silver.

They can also move golds/then silvers up to rows 1-3, IF THERE ARE NO PREMIUM ECONOMY GUESTS ONBOARD.

Although, if moved to row 1-3, it is seat only and not the comp f&b etc

I have been told its not a compulsury thing to do by crew, and it shouldn't be expected every time a status member flies.

I believe its just a small way cc can recognise gold & silver guests.

As at the moment, there is little the cc have the power to do as far as status recognition.

5 out of 5 of my recent DJ flights have seen status pax around me being given free drinks

That's interesting... As DJ gold, I have not been offered anything at all once onboard the aeroplane. My last few flights have been evening ones and I had to purchase my drinks.

That said, the lounge staff in BNE are excellent at recognising high status pax.

A few times now when I've entered the lounge the staff have seen my seat allocation (usually row 4) and moved me into an otherwise empty PE section.

I was travelling on a seperate ticket with someone once, I was in row 4 and they were in about 11 (no status) and the flight was totally full. Without hesitation, the staff member made a few calls and upgraded us both to PE (actual PE) so we'd be seated together.

Little things... but enough to make a difference.

I always found the Golden Wing staff at Brisbane to be similarly customer focussed.

Does the greenie trick work on DJ? Or are DJ more savvy since they are dealing with a lot of cash at any given time?

I guess if the answer is "no, the trick won't work" but you still insist on handing over a greenie, you just might get a whole lot of shrapnel back. I mean, a lot.

But if you hand over a $50 or $100 and you get change you know the next passenger on the plane to hand over a $50 or $100 might just get a free drink.

+1

I might add: the little unwritten, extra, unexpected benefits. Very good to hear DJ is starting to get a handle on this.

I've said it before, but I'll say it again, comp-space-avail upgrades will win business. Airlines that fly with empty premium seats, piss off their frequent fliers (that travel in lower classes). (DJ ain't gonna churn too many frequent full fare J fliers, ATM QF has that market sewn up. :()

They don't have a choice if they intend on increasing their business market share.

The problem is when unwritten extra benefits become expected rather than unexpected. Then we get the flurry of accusations of inconsistency, perceived customer value and so on.

I disagree with you there but we might just have to let the impasse be. This is not the time and place to be arguing about this now (not that this has been argued ad nauseum already).
