We have formed friendships through many walks of life – eg schools / universities, neighbours, work, church, friends of friends, and through AFF!
As we are waiting and planning for our trip home later this year (fingers and toes crossed tightly), I often wonder how interesting these friendships have developed.
Hubby is by nature a shy and reserved person, while am tend to be a social dragonfly. I joined AFF over 18 years ago, but have not been very active in posting.
Hubby got a job in London 9 years ago. I posted a question about it in AFF and cove answered it as they have a flat near hubby’s work. Cove (and Mrs cove) introduced us to two young Australians working in London – Flashback and Mal. Through them and cove I met other AFFers like kpc, Jessica Tam, Princess Fiona, leadman, ausbt, Mattg – when they passed through London. Some have not met hubby as he was always busy working (so we can travel!)
Later we discovered that cove and Mrs cove have the same wedding anniversary date as ours. They lived in southern California around the same time when we lived there in our younger days.
Then we discovered that kpc lives just around the corner from us in Sydney. He used to go for runs past our house. I used to walk our 2 dogs past his house.
Every year we – as well as Flashback and Mal – look forward to visits by cove and Mrs cove. They would bring us goodies from home such as home-made Christmas cakes, Tim Tam and Arnott’s Shapes biscuits!
How have your friendships with other AFFers developed? Probably through AFF meetings? I hope to go to a few of these meetings to put a name to a face, after we are back home among the gum trees and the cheeky rainbow lorrikeets.
