So airlines now charge if you buy a cheaper ticket and want to change your flight (pending availability of course). So how about when you pay that extra for a fully lexible ticket, but they don't end up changing your flight for you, even if there are no-shows where seats would've been available? I think there's a fair argument saying a refund of part of the ticket should be made available!

I'm probably just venting, just been stand-by on two flights and have waited 3hrs, where passengers have been noshows but I wasn't offered a seat despite holding a "fully flexible" ticket.

And this is the flight that'll get me to Platinum for the first time since becoming a QFF in 1998...isn't it meant to be more joyous?

What airline?
Was there a fare difference and were you willing to pay it.

Or was it flight fully booked, just no shows created availability and they didn't allow you to go standby.

On QF if I am really wanting to fly will avoid the lounge and go to the ticketing desk who can put you on standby.

Yes QF, no need to pay, I had the full Y fare which is fully flexible, and yes I was at the Cityflyer desk waiting. Now im just going to end up on the flight I was originally booked on, so I may as well have paid a LOT less.

What makes you think that the flight went out with empty seats on it & they weren't filled with other standby pax?

If you were on commercial standby and there were no shows you would have got a seat if there was space. I'd say there was probably a few on the standby list ahead of you who were also commercial pax but maybe CL & WP so you could've been outranked on this occasion.

I take it you only had carry on luggage as commercial standby is not permitted with checked luggage.

I don't know what sector you're talking about however it is currently school holidays so I imagine flights could be full SYD/BNE for example as everyone loves to fly north in winter.

After the flight was closed, the cityflyer desk staff told all the standby passengers - at least all those milling around the desk, that no seats were available to anyone. So I headed back into the QC where repeated announcements for last passengers were made. Presumably no shows...perhaps the seats were offered to CL or WP, but they certainly weren't at the standby desk.
