Further Qantas Status Extension?

If anything, overseas members would be contributing more revenue to QF as the airline partners pay QF for the QF points awarded for travel.

Assuming a lounge is visited before the flight then I suspect in most cases QF will pay more for that lounge visit than QF will earn for the points. So it's a net loss to QF.

As far as I understand it in Oneworld the airline operating the flight pays for the lounge visit. So if an overseas member was using Qantas Status whilst for example flying with British Airways, then British Airways would have to pay for the lounge visit, as well as paying Qantas for the Qantas Points. It would therefore I think be a net profit for QF.

As far as I am aware if you travel on another airline and use their lounge, your airline gets the bill, but not the revenue for the travel. Which makes me feel disengenuous in using, say, Emirates lounge at an airport where Qantas has a lounge, even going to both ( different ends of the airport with Emirates near the departure gate).

I'm guilty of doing this two times so far ... visited the QF F, did not like the food (can't remember the reason why) and then visited the EK as well. EK had this amazing spicy middle-eastern/Arabian fare, which I liked very much, so spent the remaining of the time in EK.

hmm .. may be ... can't really remember ... but TBQH, I have NEVER once had a chance to try the spa in QF F lounge ... every time I visited, both in SYD & MEL, the spa was booked out completely and I was told that if there are any cancellations, we'd page you ... never paged once so far ...

This only works if the Emirates lounge is near your gate. But yes to the catering, and Emirates Syd has Glenmorangie when all Syd QF has Glenlivet (still nice). Not sure what's in Q Business lounge but certainly not better than Glenmorangie.

Quick Question : I just checked my QFF account and the website says that I still have 4 qualifying flights to take this year? But I have taken at least 9 flights this year. All of those 9 were classic reward redemptions. Don't the classic redemptions count towards the 4 minimum QF/JQ flight per membership year?

No they don't, but it doesn't matter so much this year, as long as one of those flights was booked at the right time

I was only thinking I have not done one work trip for the entire year... I have a overnight trip to BNE next month and I am driving as it is about 30 minute drive for me...

Ok trip is booked for Oct. This covers points used "account is active again " so , hopefully , another year of platinum and also keeping the points alive

JQ flights do count for the status extension, provided add a bundle.

Ahhh…that’s a good idea. Giving an extra 12 months of no activity perhaps? Is there any way overseas members can earn points apart from flying? Would love to hear from those abroad. Is there a participating Woolies UK?

They can earn points on any OneWorld carrier.

They could also book hotels through Qantas to earn points (often quite a lot of points - more than by flying).
If they were really desperate they could use points to buy something from the Qantas shop.

We haven’t said they are unable to earn points. Various ways of earning points have already been mentioned.

That doesn’t help with earning status credits though, so overseas members still have their collective fingers crossed for another status extension.
