Future flight credits - beware!

hi, I booked a domestic flexi fare a few days ago which was part paid for by a future flight credit ($109) and part by credit card ($335). However, I cancelled the flight for return to travel bank (thinking $109 will return to future flight credit and $335 to standard travel bank), but it's gone all back into a future flight credit ($109 + $335). The problem is, the future flight credits expire on Dec 31, whereas normal travel bank credits have 365 days to use. I contacted Virgin (to request that $109 go back to Future Flight credit and $335 to standard travel bank) but they said they'd review it which will take 21 days and no promises. (basically mid Dec) Is this reasonable that the entire flexi fare has gone back into a future flight credit with such a limited period of use? worth trying to take it any further or just suck it up? (and pay $485 for a domestic J fare rather than a $125 economy fare)

Unfortunately it’s in the FFC terms and conditions:

7. Cancelling Eligible Travel Bookings

a. The information below sets out the specific rules that apply to the cancellation by you or by us of Eligible Travel bookings purchased with Future Flight credits.

b. In the event you cancel a booking made using your Future Flight credit (as full or partial payment) and your Future Credit fare rules and/or terms and conditions of other Eligible Travel permit a cancellation, we will provide you with a new Future Flight credit for the amount you paid for your fare and flight extras, less any applicable cancellation fees or non-refundable amounts (for example, amounts paid for services that you used prior to cancellation). You will not be entitled to receive cash refunds or other forms of travel credits. Please refer to the Future Credit fare rules.

travel bank is a scam
Travel bank itself is quite ok! Much more generous than say Qantas where it used to have to be the same or higher fare. With travel bank it can be any fare, or even part payment.

As for flight credits, can’t answer. Lucky enough not to have had any of those :(
