Future of QF27/28 travel post covid

Passengers on the first post-COVID QF27 this Sunday will be in for a treat when they plunge into the South Pacific Ocean around 2000 miles off the coast of South America...

Suffice it to say that the aircraft loaded in the system is actually a B789 ;)

Well, it's obviously a mistake, but SYD-SCL is actually shorter than BNE-LAX, which uses the A330. Obviously an issue with ETOPS, but if it's coming down to "plunging in the ocean" - I think they can make an exception.

Well i know Qantas bashing is all the rage, but Latam cancelled a flight after two failed attempts to take off, the first was due to a sick passenger needing to be offloaded. The second we suspect was due to working hours of staff.
Latam were absolutely awful about it as well. I was lucky i spent 24 hours in the signature lounge at Santiago, which has beds and a shower at least. Latam couldn't tell us when, told us no hotels were available and to stay in the lounge/airport for an update. I was back in the lounge at 3am, didn't get new flights til 5:30pm which thankfully was for me the same flight that night. They ran a repositioning flight the following day at 3am but just to Auckland. A few people got put into economy and they complained and eventually got a business class flight. The whole thing seemed to be about the cheapest way to fix the problem for Latam. Meanwhile friends flew the Qantas direct flight the next day but missed their Perth connection (apparently about 50 people missed connections) and got put up in a hotel for the night.

Can anyone see any award flight availability for this route post June 2023? I'm logged in and can't see anything. I could've sworn I saw availability a few weeks ago but it's now disappeared?

I was searching for SYD-JFK in J in August 2023 and was offered SYD-SCL and SCL- ? (DFW i think) on Latam and then a connecting AA flight. Didn't take it as cant use Latam in a OWA. But there was definitely some availability.

For those checking this thread and these flights, a sale came up yesterday to SCL (and EZE by extension) was gonna get them today, the sale seats are GONE, for October! (to EZE). 1 adult and 1 child at 3700 was a great deal, now they cost way more and of course, there are never ever reward seats to South America. When are the exorbitant prices going to stop? It's so out of control. Sorry for the rant, also looking for tips if anyone has any or just checking day in and day out? (and I couldn't get them yesterday because I was waiting for approval at work).

I've noticed that the sale prices was loaded for flights ex-SYD only. I've been looking for PE ex-MEL but the sale prices aren't available ex-MEL for some reason, but is for ex-SYD

You are right!!! I just had a look. That's something to consider. I was looking from Bne. Thanks
Edit. Have to factor in the additional costs to syd and back with luggage and so on 🤔😄

Ive seen a few recently but not where South America was the final stop. I searched SYD - JFK for August and was offered routing via SCL in J (LATAM + AA). So they do pop up occasionally.

There's a heap of QF27/28 availability with yesterday's classic rewards release for later this year, but there's a similar 'married segment' issue with the earlier sale where it was only available for flights ex-SYD. The classic reward flights are available if you book QF27/QF28 alone, but not when searching from other ports (in my case Ex-Mel), even with the multi-city tool (it throws up an error at the payment page). I'm lucky in my case as I can ask for the flights to be released (being a WP).
