And… the piece de resistance – leopard!

But camera too slow to get a decent full body shot as it turned and disappeared into the bush in shadowy, dim light. We were very close and by ourselves – but not for long. But no further sighting.

It was a very lucky encounter. We were on our way out of the park as it was getting late in the day and the park was due to shut, and the light was fading.

Leisurely drive along the south coast the next morning as we wound down for a chill at the beach for a couple of days.

Buffalo curd (aka yogurt) producers and stalls were common. It’s even thicker than Greek yogurt. Delish served with treacle.

Typically, for an Australian, the beaches are nothing to get too excited about.

After a day chilling, we moved on towards Galle the next morning.

The iconic pole fishermen. Really just a performance for the tourists. Don’t attempt to avoid paying them if you take a photo.

Colonial Galle was founded by the Portuguese in the early 1500s but taken by the Dutch in the mid-1600s. Most of the Portuguese presence was destroyed and Fort, the WH-listed Old Town on the promontory, was built from then.

And that was just about it for Sri Lanka. That afternoon we drove to Colombo. The tour officially ended after breakfast the next morning, but my son and I were on midnight flights out to HKG and SIN, respectively, so we only used the hotel to shower, change and have dinner with the others before heading to CMB.

I had a night in HKG before the CX flight to PER the next afternoon.

Nothing of note to report from that, so...

That’s all folks!

Thanks for a great TR. Lots and lots of superb photos. You would certainly have needed a few days to rest on the beaches after this trip.

I was especially impressed by how nice Sri Lanka looked. We may have to make a trip to see if there is any physical evidence of my wife's forbears who lived there from around the mid 17th Century.

Sri Lanka really is a lovely place.

Just catching up now i have some decent wifi. Great TR and descriptions with excellent photos as always. It's been interesting travelling with a lot of Americans for the past few weeks and trying to explain why I said we had to be up at sparrows the next morning

Do go. If a private tour would interest you, they're is a guy that a number of us on AFF have used and have been very happy with. PM me if interested.
It won't be for some years yet. I think we're all travelled out a bit after last year's Big Trip, plus we're building a house this year, but maybe one day. And yes, a private tour would probably suit us, so I'll keep that in mind, thanks :)
