General Coronavirus chit chat thread - non-travel specific

Yes, that's why these have been worn in many Asian countries (eg Japan) when the wearer has an infection. That has been extended now to presume everyone has an infection so everyone should wear them. For others sake, not theirs.

Can we qualify this by stating that this is a recommendation in the USA where CV19 is rife and where a lack of testing means that the authorities have little idea of how many are infected and where they are.

However when I am out in publichere in Australia I act as if everyone is infected and maintain a distance of greater than 2m and was my hands regularly. Quarantine any shopping on return to home (fresh items like meat go into a plastic bag before placement in the fridge).

If a store etc is too crowded for my standards to allow this I simply do not go in.

I am comfortable not wearing a face mask here in Australia where I frequent.

Make your own if you wish. Buy one if you wish as long as it is not a N95 Medical grade one. N95 masks should be for health workers and the like only both here and internationally where such masks are often in extremely short supply.

Please do not fuel those selling masks at high prices via ebay etc. I know from my daughter that PPE etc has been stolen from her hospital.

Yes, agree with all that. The trouble is I've encountered many eejits who also seem completely oblivious to the distancing concept and have even come to stand between crosses on the floor in the supermarket where my space seemed to be their invitation to stand in front of me. If that guy sneezed then who knows. The store wasn't crowded, it was controlled by arrows but people being eejits kill off any chance of it working. Coupled with the fact he was still in his work out gear after a run. I told him to move, pronto out of my space but he looked like he had no idea what I was talking about.

At least if everyone wore some kind of face covering they'd wear their own mess and not throw it on to everything in sight. Of course, these would be not supplies required by medical personnel. Although how on earth we've come to be in such short supply is an issue for a later day.

I wouldn't drink that rubbish before COVID-19.......... and especially wouldn't drink it going forward, given its relation to the virus.
;)

I wasn’t thinking of drinking it, I was going to stockpile it next to all the TP 🤪

Walked past the last package of mince at the supermarket today, it took great strength of will not to grab it!

Its one of my nephews birthday today, hes 9. So most of us sent him a card during the week, because no party and no cake.

Well, except for the ones that drove to their house to take happy pics on the footpath, all bunched up together, wishing him happy birthday while touching shoulders 🤪. The same ones that was at Westfields last week with masks and those gloves you get in home hair dye boxes.

I know most of my DNA is from the shallow end of the pool but I just wish we couldnt be counted on for always being an example of it.

It’s my son’s birthday today too. He lives in Melbourne, so no flying visit from Perth this year - just a gift in the mail and a Facetime call from home.... but I know that next year we can catch up again.

This afternoon I had news from a friend, that another member of a club we belong to had to fly to the UK urgently on Tuesday.

Her son was in hospital. Not COVID related, it was a brain tumour. He passed away this morning leaving a wife and two small daughters.

I was told his mother was unable to see him in hospital as she had to remain in a hotel in isolation after flying in.

I feel so sad for her, she must be utterly devastated and the 4/4 will be a date that is forever etched in her memory - but for all the wrong reasons.

So incredibly sad.

Shoppers attending Jan Powers Farmers Market at the Brisbane Powerhouse on Saturday have been pictured flouting social-distancing rules, despite market organisers outlining and encouraging all market-goers to follow recommended precautions just hours earlier.

If there are too many ... just go away ... no .... some people just can't help themselves.

Looks like it will either be cancelled or entry will be limited.

And yet it went viral!

Such things tend to :)

From what I can work out, this fake news stems from small parts of truth in that Mexico has introduced crackdowns on "non-essential" services/production. Beer making was in a bit of a no-mans land, and the brewery wanted government clarification as to the status of their industry. They are waiting to get the clarification that they are an "agricultural product" industry, which is protected from the lock down laws. They have offered the government a plan to make as many jobs within the process "work from home" if needed, and slowed production to the minimum to keep all processes running and people employed, until such clarification gets passed.

But they have NOT stopped making beer, and it is almost certain that the government will define their business as "agricultural product" in the coming days. Corona beer is an extremely significant export for Mexico! :)

Front page of Brisbane Times today (smh/the age equivalent) shows why we really need to think about stage 4. Idiots..
Woolworths is expecting a stage 4 to be rolled out soon, based around what some areas in the US and Europe are doing. They've mentioned that they have a letter drawn up ready to send to staff that can be used to prove that they are essential workers should lockdowns get tightened.
They also have letters available that will get staff across closed state borders and avoid any isolation requirements that state may have, but you need approval from the stage manager to get one of those.
