Our lawn man is here, he does mum in laws at the same time so 2 x jobs for him at same location. He said he was stopped by Police and asked to justify if hes a essential employee/er. I consider him damned essential (for my lawn and hedges) plus hes a local so money for our economy/he employs people and we have no contact - even our payment is done via ziplock baggie thats been sprayed with disinfectant.

In Victoria, the Premier Daniel Andrews has given confusing messages re travelling to holiday homes, which he's said was 'OK' at least a couple of times, but his Chief Health Officer has said 'essential travel only' or that's what the rules imply.

That would probably be because of a feature of the Victorian stay at home direction, where paragraph 10(1)(g) permits travel between two (or more!) places of residence. I understand this is unique, and the other states don’t have such a feature. So Don Harwin breached the NSW order by travelling to his Central Coast holiday home, but if his travel was from Melbourne to his holiday home in Lorne, no breach.

These detail differences are creating confusion, because the rules and the breaches in particular States are being reported nationally. This is added to by the many grey areas as well as changes and differences in interpretation, the issue of how far is a “reasonable distance” to travel to do something and the various positions on L-platers being classic examples.

Exactly why I have a painter here today, she has the ability to work so is continuing to do so. And it’s not like we have plans to be anywhere.

Those young AFF recruits that got into trouble having a noisy late night party

Having attended a couple of AFF functions in Canberra I can only say they were never like this.

But then I was only invited to the oldies group.

I used to live meters from the AFP Training Centre (not the "AFF" training centre @Denali ), and the only mistake they made was having the party on the residential side of the centre instead of the institutional side at the front.

Some may remember that when the Abbott Govt were undertaking updating the wiring and plumbing etc at the PM's official residence The Lodge, Tony Abbott couldn't stay at the Lodge in CBR due to the renos.

But, he made a big note of himself saying it was to save money by not staying at the Lodge and staying at the very much more modest AFP Training Centre down the road. Meanwhile, over at the Lodge the costs of doing essential work to the Lodge blew out the budget big time but he didn't mention that part.

These are the things you know when living in CBR.

He certainly should not have sworn at the police no matter how upset he was, that is uncalled for.

Unsure what the problem is here? Possibly he could have been politer to the police but the activity was harmless and the only escalation of COVID-19 infection was the police interaction with him. At least the dog got an outing and some entertainment!

The silly ones are being rescinded so don't fret.

I feel for the police in these situations.

New laws, ill defined, untested, decision making on the go by authorities. A workforce on rotating rosters, hearing stuff third hand through supervisors.

The Premier repeating ad nauseam that the only reasons you shouldn't be home are a short list of getting food, getting medicine, medical appt, to/from work or education, necessary exercise. Then announces very publicly says we have had enough of people flouting the rules and police will be issuing on the spot fines.

What are the police expected to do when someone is out and about after midnight washing his car in a public place.

Damned if they do, damned if they don't.

When is 14 days not 14 days? There are media reports that the first passengers from overseas who arrived and were sent to hotels are being released today, at least in NSW. What the?

We were one of the last to arrive before the deadline came in, at about 2pm Saturday 28 March. Using fairly basic maths, I had assumed our self isolation ends at 2pm on Saturday 11 April - that’s 14 days.

But no, these people who arrived on Sunday 29 March (morning) are being released today - Saturday 11 April. In my maths that’s 13 days.

We’re in Victoria - I think Dan can do maths, but maybe not - in any event we will wait until 2pm today to be on the safe side. (Edit: sane media report says that the first people who were sent to hotels in Melbourne will be released tomorrow, yes Dan can do maths )

What a joke though in NSW.

Yes there were reports they went into isolation on Thu 26th and were released on Wed (8th).

Ok we have quite a few folks due to come out of Rottnest isolation and now there are difficulties getting these people out of WA to their homes in other States. Not sure how this will get fixed as WA has closed its borders.

Well a new loophole for Victorians.If you fish from the bank of the Murray river on the Victorian side you are breaking the Covid law but take a couple of steps and have both feet in the water you are no longer breaking a Covid law.The waters of the Murray are part of NSW.

But... when you went home, wouldn’t you then need to go into isolation for the next 14 days?
(because you crossed the state border)

I thought only West Australians were held on Rottnest and 'foreigners' (i.e. non-WA) were held in Perth hotels.

No, not to enter NSW or Vic. Otherwise the fishing trip would be a minimum of 28 days.

Only NSW, Victoria and the ACT remain open to state-wide travellers, although like everywhere else in the country, travellers from overseas are required to self-isolate for 14 days, and not doing so could attract fine in NSW of up to $11,000 and even six months’ prison time. In Victoria, the fine is $20,000.

And with the daily case rates now so low, the original reason to bring in the 14 day isolation for people entering some states is now no longer really valid and especially when you adjust for population.
