Re: How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Slightly odd experience checking into HSW last night about 9:30PM. Hadn't met this particular hilton employee previously. He welcomed me back and then asked "So what would you like to be upgraded to?"* I said "What have you got?" and unsurprisingly was given a relxation suite - room 502. I don't love this one as the proximity of the lounge deck whilst walking around the main room (let's pretend I was wearing PJs) make it very easy for people to see into your room...

It did get me thinking about how much switching around the front desk people do. I haven't had a welcome card in months at HSW and I wonder if it is because my room changes and they don't move the card. I was sort of expecting a card this time as I emailed the GM last week passing on my thanks for a great stay and his great staff when mrssimongr and the boy were there a week or so ago. I also only got one bottle of water. As I have said before I don't need the card but it is interesting that I haven't had one in a while - I have had 9 - 10 stays there in the past three months.

On the upside I ordered room service at the front desk and that worked well - meant I could just get on with unpacking gear and hacking the TV sooner.

* He really should have said "To what would you like to be upgraded?" but let's let that slide

I reckon it might be an internal directive/adjustment. I hadn't been to HSW since mid year but returned last weekend and several smaller things were missing, including my first ever missing GM's welcome at this hotel. I only received a 'normal' gold upgrade to an exec room and this was showing on my HH account days before I arrived so I don't think the missing card for me would have been due to a room change.

Yes. I got water on my first night, but I had to remind them on the second night as nothing arrived. The evening turndown service seems to have changed from coming in to do a quick refresh of the room, turning down ones quilt and leaving a chocolate (or other small item) on the bed into simply coming in and turning on the bedside light now (in room safe was broken too).

Still a great hotel with great staff, but coming off their peak it appears.

Maybe an influx of Velocity Elites this year has blunted the peak ...

A pity I had not realised - I would have made an effort to catch up with you last night (although I recognise it was late).

Re: How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

a staff member... asked him if he would like a dirty martini.....

Hilton Sydney is still my favourite in Australia at the moment, but I was reminded of why I really love staying at HSW.

a dirty martini??........ is that a martini served in an unwashed glass?

I think you and I are about the only AFFers who'd prefer Sydney Hilton over HSW!

It apparently has some of the olive brine in the coughtail - so it has a cloudy appearance. Not drinking, I'm not up on these things!

More for us! I think the thing that the Sydney Hilton doesn't have is space - it's a compact property and so the Excutive Lounge and the rooms are not expansive. But the service there is top class and friendly.

Yes, rooms are smaller than I'd prefer but that is amply overcome by the location. Hard to beat really.....an easy walk to just about everywhere in the city! I also particularly like the pool area and gym (although the gym is something I only muse over......one day perhaps). The exec. lounge I actually like. I find the intimacy nicer than the huge expanse of the HSW lounge and the canapes were (IMO) the nicest I've had at any of the Hiltons I've stayed at (which admittedly is not an expansive list).

Re: How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

How quickly prices change.

A few days ago I looked at HSW for 29th Oct and it was $224 (- 20%) ---- I should have booked.

Today it is $350 (- 20%) :!:

HOTP was $243 and is still at $263 (- 20%)

Re: How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

I have been looking at a few dates in Oct/Aug using the AAA rates - either not available or $300+ for some nights.

@beardoc - would have been nice to catch up. My original plan was to be there Thursday day time and Friday so would have caught up in the lounge - sadly had to move to the later flight - pretty tired on check in.

I just booked HSW 25th Oct for $192 (- 20%)

Re: How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Hi all,

Is the HSW and Hilton SYD classified as a 5 star hotel?

Thanks,
K.

Re: How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

I find most of the AU ones show up as "self rated".
