Some folks drop out of taking statin drugs due to side effects. My history makes that not possible.
For all those lining up for colonoscopies on Monday today is a preparation day. I was surprised there were 2 no shows the day I had mine.

Winter is here (and to GoT fans, no spoilers!) and this weekend I found myself (mostly) bed ridden due to lower back and other leg/hip joint pains. I used to do regular yoga but out of practice for 1.5 years now. Flexibility, mobility has decreased as I find myself crawling into a ball under the duvet more often this winter, than moving about to prevent the inevitable.

How do you manage arthritis in the colder months? Especially the pain. Has fish oil, glucosamine, MSM etc. worked for you?

Maybe their support person wasn't available? I know the last time I had one, despite having briefed the staff and doctor when I made the appointment (NSW) that I was alone they nearly refused to do it on the morning. The compromise was that I would stay in the hospital for 12 hours.

Now the first question I get in VIC is who is going to look after you. Since I can't give a name they refuse to go any further. Therefore I can't have a colonoscopy any more.

definitely no spoilers! We gave in last year and bought the first 5 seasons and then were really annoyed by a cliff hanger, so am not watching anymore until it is finished and then going to buy the remaining Seasons and watch it all again :)

we don't have particularly bad aches, but both Mr FM and I find it gets worse in winter. We find fish oil helps us. We are also quite committed to daily Tai Chi summer and winter. Started about 4 years ago and that has helped as well.

My sympathies for your pain - it sounds quite bad.

Artritis, tendonitis, bursitis, sacroiliatis are a sinch. Just ignore them and keep doing the things you love doing.

Swollen glands, tonsils and burning mouth/tongue are a different story. The eye is strong on this one.

Depending on the level of swelling and the joint affected, I would think everyone has their pain threshold point - I did with my shoulder bursitis (where cortisone didn't work and only strong pain relief and physio eased and alleviated the symptoms). The subsequent transfer of the bursitis to my hips has been bearable without any medication and physio to date.

Can't comment on these as haven't had (BMS) or in many years (the others)

Hope the evil eye gets a poke.

I have a high pain threshold but certainly don't recommend squashing your Hoffa pad in the joint of your knee. The minute you weight bear on the foot it hurts like mad. Feeling somewhat miserable at the moment.

I suffered from shoulder bursitis for years before I stumbled upon a video on youtube talking about the Teres minor and Teres Major muscles referring pain to the shoulder where bursitis presents itself. Since doing some trigger point therapy I have been pain free for over 6 months including going to the gym pain free which I haven't experience in well over 10 years.
I will see if I can find the exact video because since discovering these trigger points I have watched countless videos about it.

A lacross ball on the teres muscles worked magic for me.

This is what started me looking down this path.

This is the video i found and started doing:

If you notice it is incredibly painful that is a good sign and regular massage will work wonders to release the tense muscle.

Just wondering. If you get food poisoning, do you instinctively know what food has caused it? Anecdotally it seems as you feel unwell it's that food taste you tend to taste? Urban myth?

Yes and no. If the food is bad taste, off, then you probably won't eat much. If it's scomboid poisoning, maybe, ciguatera, probably, bad mussels, definitely, but just an off fresh egg mayonnaise you may not realise.

Food poisoning 2-6 hours after eating contaminated food. (Virus, Bacteria, Parasite)

Stomach Bug 24-48 hours after exposure to virus.

Me and my mother got a stomach bug nearly 2 months ago. Both ends. Worst stomach bug we ever had.

That sounds about the right timing for food poisoning then. Ate at 2.30pm and unwell around 6pm. Up first then down. But stopped now. Phew. Not the worst case ever. That happened after eaten contaminated prawns on a junk boat in HaLong Bay. That was dreadful.

It's now more than 6 weeks and still going strong. Antibiotics haven't helped although Roxythromycin did assist the first few weeks. Could be viral and also multiple infections but this is torture. Staph infection?

Back to GP on Monday/Tuesday but don't know what else to try.

Well for the first time in more than two years I'm off work on sick leave. Swollen throat, lots of coughing and sore bones.

Off to the GP soon and have already told work I'll be off for at least two days.

That's not really accurate. "Foor poisoning" is generally faeco-oral and so is no different to "stomach bugs". Things like norovirus and adenovirus can come form contaminated objects and from food, and may take 24-48 hours. Some bacteria from food may act rapidly and some may incubate for several days.

As a general rule, you may notice the suspicious food but you can never be certain. It's also never the food from home, always the food when out, no matter how old the leftovers are ;)

My last trip through LAX, AA was serving freshly smashed avocado in the T4 lounge. I think it was a mistake to consume it as the "smashing" bowl didn't seem to get "cleaned". No way to prove it as the source of my "discomfort" however.

Happy wandering

How about food that was prepared hygienically but poorly refrigerated or not reheated properly then?

Well back from the GP and at the moment not going back to work until at least Friday.

I feel like death warmed up.

My GP had a student so the examination was very thorough which is always good. I'm happy to let students practice on me and learn under supervision.

Been feeling like cough, sore throat, sniffles, and mucus. I know it's just a temporary thing, it seems to happen every winter no matter what I take or do, guess I have to suck it up.
Of course it may be a result of my lifestyle, on and off planes, in and out of different climates on an almost weekly basis, who is to know. Although I do know I would be much happier being somewhere warmer than Canberra at the moment.
