General Medical issues thread

Classic. On the other hand there is an element that as inidividuals we need to be our own advocate versus the limited time Doctors have to obtain all the information they need for a diagnosis.

Completely agree. Unfortunately have had too many situations in my life where more research and questioning would likely have lead to a better outcome.

If doctors bothered to spend more time with patients then research by the patient may not be required.

But as always money is more important.

Doctors in GP clinics are under the restrictions of the Business Practice Manager and they seem to have quite some power. Practicing medicine meets business requirements and medicine doesn’t usually win.

My old GP used to spend a lot of time with patients. If more than 15 minutes he would charge a 'long' consultation. Not good for his practice and appointments but good for his patients who knew they wouldget thorough examination. I remember one time he spent well over an hour with me including cardiograph.

When I went to GP clinic last year with a weird sensation in my throat I asked for a GP at the practice who was thorough. Normally I just get any Dr for routine stuff. Guess I instinctively knew something was up but I wasn’t actually worried. Took an hour to get in but within 30 minutes of getting in I’d had a full physical, neck ultrasound and cardiograph and on my way to hospital. That was a long appointment but I paid nothing.

And lucky you did!

Now. As I was typing that post I was thinking JohnK would chime in and say God was looking after me. :p

I do believe in ‘something’ - that ‘something’ as I closed the front door made me go to the Doctors instead of going grocery shopping which until I closed the door was where I was heading. And that same ‘something’ made me not brush it off with an average Doctor. And ensured the Receptionist allocated me a thorough one. But I can’t say that it was God. But I don’t know what.
I’ve also realised in hindsight that Feb - March are weird months for me.

I have had medial right knee pain for several months and it consistently hurts or aches but I can walk no issues. Taking anti-inflammatory med like paracetamol or ibuprofen makes it go away. Went once to physio for Acupuncture . Still hurts limp occasionally should I do anything else or munch on paracetamol?

Are you able to book long appointments at your GP? We can at ours. I'd encourage people to do this if they can... can help make sure the wait times are better managed.

Remind me not to book a cruise in Feb or March with you then :p

As far as I aware no. He bulk bills 5-10 minute appointments and generally only 1 issue at each appointment.

I'm still under the weather - body aches, sore throat, headaches etc. but quick question ... today is flu jab day for the wife and I, are there any issues in doing so or should I delay?

My only issues at the moment are self inflicted.............. :(
And how is MrsC? Out of hospital yet?
Daughter had follow ups rays and visit to surgeon during the week. Apparently he is very pleased with the progress. Should be I think as this was the second set of hip surgery in a little over 12 months :(
She is certainly much better.

Went for it anyway. They also mentioned I hadn't had the pneumonia vaccine so would I like that? Sure, why not .. 1 in each arm!
