General Medical issues thread

Good that she is holding down fluids at least. Any idea what it was?
No idea. Gave her a spoon of ice cream and vomited straight away.

She has high white blood cell which could be from infection or due to the vomiting. Otherwise bloods are ok. Chest xray is fine and bowel is ok. Possible urinary tract infection and they will check when she produces enough urine for urine test.

She is looking better. I just took her to playroom and she had some fun but she's not allowed to walk due to cannula.

Recently found out that someone I know has cognitive disorder. Has had their licence taken away after report from GP. Something I need to do a little research on. Didn't see any real reduction in ability when I spent time with them on the weekend but first must do some reading

Daughter and I out of hospital. She's looking much better. Appetite back and not vomiting. Apparently they are putting it down to a 24 hour virus. Back to Brisbane in the morning.

Sad though when I took daughter to see dad who's in another ward in same hospital. His eyes lit up when he saw her but daughter was crying non stop and we didn't stay long. She was ok when we saw dad 2 days ago but she wasn't sick then.

Oh well kids are very unpredictable.

Well after having spent Friday and Saturday at the ED getting my nose fixed, it started bleeding again on Sunday night. So Monday morning I'm back at the ED to start again.

This time the Dr cauterised the area of bleeding so hopefully that will resolve it for awhile. Next up a specialist's appointment to go through it all and make sure it doesn't happen again.

Oh no, that’s not good news though hopefully the cauterisation will be effective and the specialist can fix the problem.:(

I had repeated nose bleeds when I was younger due to a blood vessel close to the surface. Had it cauterised twice and havent had a problem since.

Actually come to think of it, my sister did as well. The cauterisation fixed it though she did have to have it done twice as well I think. I do remember she hadn't had a blood nose for ages and then got one at my brother's wedding reception. Poor thing - she was only about 9 or so at the time. :(

I had repeated nose bleeds, especially when I was getting a migraine or stressed. Since having my turbinates reduced, haven’t had another.

My mother in laws drivers licence was cancelled/suspended by her doctors after she sustained a brain injury post car accident. About a year after she was able to get her licence back by sitting a practical driving exam as well as being given the all clear by her OT and doctor.
Depending on what their cognitive disorder is, they may be able to get their licence back in the future?

Raynaulds in full mode the other day. Complete hand turned white on a warmish day. Zoomed and cropped. People said my hands were freezing to touch.

Another close friend has been diagnosed with cancer, lymphatic..... :(

Guess we are getting to the age where this will happen more and more in our circle of friends.

Also today for the first time in ages, caught up with a friend who has Parkinson's disease, he used to be very very active and very good with his hands, he was a dental technician by profession, poor bloke, very slow now, can't do any precise stuff, but at least he's still alive.

I've joined the prostate crowd - Gleeson 7/8 and not ignorable (but also no panic). Because of my age, BMI and previous surgery, they don't want to operate so I'm currently on hormones to try and shrink the prostate ahead of 8 weeks of radiation, In the meantime, off for a DONE4 to get myself in the mood.

Good luck on the ‘journey’ as they euphemistically call treatment. Hope all goes well.

I appear to have left that crowd. I wish you well in achieving the same result.

Dad still in hospital. Walking a little better now. Has been in hospital close to 2 months now.

Physiotherapist has mentioned that he can leave next week if he continues to progress. They have come to see the house and not many changes required. Think the bathtub is going to be replaced with walk in shower only.

Good to hear. Hope he is able to return home soon.

Auto immune Thyroid stuff continues to befuddle. On 200 a day for last 6 months and TSH has not dropped. T4 and T3 are low normal. Why doesn’t my brain register that and switch off?
