General Medical issues thread

And here is my niece discussing sleep and depression on TV this morning. She is my wonder girl. PhD, 2 toddlers, and Lupus to boot. Family resemblance much? To those I’ve met.

So, for an oldie who has never had measles and mumps as a child and has never been immunised as there was no such thing back then, is there a need to get the immunisation done in order to protect littlies with whom I might come into a lot of contact with?

Yes. And pertussis vaccination is a must.

Visited friend with the terminal esophageal cancer this morning. His appointment with the oncologist to sort out some kind of palliative treatment is on Monday and can't come soon enough for him, although part of him doesn't want to know. I was shocked as I hadn't seen him for a few weeks - he has lost even more weight and is in pain as well. If they can't do something to alleviate the symptoms I am thinking only a few months at most. :( It's a b@5tard of a disease.
At least I was able to help a bit by explaining the super forms he had as he couldn't work out what to do.

I asked this question previously. Not sure if I've mentioned to GP.

I have a feeling I've already asked GP and he said not to worry. Daughter is fully immunised. Is she likely to bring anything home that I need to worry about?
Colds colds and colds. I’m more concerned about giving the child something and not reverse.

As an adult I gave my 5 year old and 8 month old the Chicken pox as I hadn’t had it as a child and got it when I was 32. See, my immune system was crazy strong as a child and I rarely got sick. Now it just attacks me and so I get the child bugs.

Not too worried about colds. My wife's been sick the past 4 weeks and daughter was sick for 2 weeks at same time and is now sick again.

I've managed to miss both which is very surprising.

Wait til child care, kindy and school.

I see it with my nephew in Thailand. Some sort of cold or virus every week. How do you immunise against that other than flu shot?
You don’t. Eventually you just get natural immunity.

Hand foot and mouth?

I caught it from a colleague’s child, who caught it in childcare.

Worst I have every felt in my life.

I usually take three fast-acting insulin injections and one slow acting one a day for diabetes. Plus two Diabex XR tablets as well.

I am very puzzled, as this is the third day I haven't taken any injections at all since - mysteriously - the two Diabex XR tablets are suddenly doing the job perfectly well all by themselves, something they haven't done for 10 years. I found this out the hard way, when I found myself voracioulsy eating anything sweet day after day, and still having low blood sugar readings.

I have had this effect before of my medication suddenly working far too well - but that's only happened when I travel to Italy. I've no idea why my body is acting as if I'm in Italy. I'm seeing my specialist Tuesday to discuss. Makes it hard to plan what to take overseas with me in a few months.
Regards,
Renato

My sister has type 1 and was one of the first in Aus to use the pump when it came out. She also very rarely injects these days and seems to have to live off sugar rather than avoid it. Things are changing.

Interesting thanks.

Back to counting calories this week. Pretty much the same diet as before high on protein.

Trying to limit breakfast/lunch to 750 calories. Yesterday on the 3rd day took food back home and consumed ~500 calories at work. The calories for dinner depend on how hungry I feel but no more than 750 calories.

Rapid weight loss today and tomorrow as I prepare for a colonoscopy on Monday. Last time was 3 years ago where I jumped the queue based on no shows. I am now on the 3 year list and the medicos send me letters telling me that it’s time. A necessary evil and with the anaesthetic/sedative means I am off driving for a time.

The prep is usually worse than the procedure. :(
