General Medical issues thread

Watching Fake Britain (or one of the similar shows) the other night they had a segment on protein shakes, even those are being counterfeited! They did some lab testing and for example one cookie said 16g protein but in reality had only 5g. Buyer beware....

That didn't sound great for MrFM. Was it a specialised clinic or the GP? MrLtL goes to a place in Deakin who are very good. Did the skin graft on his nose as it was a BSC. Healed very well.
Your visits don't sound fun either, Hope all the results are OK.
Reminds me, how are the beagles? Keeping you busy?
he goes to a dermatologist. He is pretty good. Mr FM gets lots of “things” and his Dad died from a skin cancer, so he’s been under specialist care for many years because of family history.

Beagles are great - took them to the dog park today and they had two gorgeous huskies and a malamute to play with. I thought they would be a bit much for my two, so I took them into the small dog park, while Mr FM took the beagles into the big one.

Ms FM and SIL are house sitting for a friend for 10 days from Friday - beagles are going with them - going to miss them! (Beagles not humans. :) )

I am working through a few things at the moment - we will see next week :). Still not recovered from the thrice damned statins, although the aches are slowly getting better!

A chemical reaction with acid to make it yellow with the consistency as sold is technically not artificial colouring. So the statement is correct but...

Is there any substance, excepts elements in their native state, whose colour is not as a result of a 'chemical reaction' :D

By which medical professionals? Not sure about the “clinically proven” either

Widely used by specialists ahead of weight loss surgery and endocrinologists for insulin resistance. Specialists in the lipoedema/ lymphoedema space are also referencing it.

Survived the lasers, luckily nowhere near as painful as the first treatment last August.

I remembered later a funny comment that the RN/laser administrator made. As she was getting ready, and smearing my face with goo, she talked about how her 60yo Mum had a Thermage treatment for her double chin. She was surprised with how well it worked, as it doesn't involve surgery.

I am guessing I had a pretty impressive double chin as I was lying there … can't imagine what else inspired her to tell me about double chin treatments!!:p:p

Oh, funny if not a little worrying....maybe you are just the same age?

Funny how we remember the odd comments. Sounds like the RN opened her mouth to change feet. :p:D:eek:

Hmm, well, I'm well under her Mum's age, and I'm probably closer to her age, which I'd guess at late 20s-early 30s (I'm in my 40s, which I guess you can't tell from my foot in my profile pic ;). My foot is ageing well.)

Ahh well, who knows why she said it, but it's made me laugh about the appointment. Laughing's a good thing.

Oh fair enough. Sometimes random thoughts pop into my mind and I say something and people ask - where did that come from?

It’s a very good looking foot. :)

Ah yes, endocrinologists. Those doctors that think they know everything.

I'm 120kg so that means I consume ~2,700 calories/day. This is what the endocrinologist said with great certainty. Reduce the consumption to ~2,200 calories/day and you'll notice the difference. Everything I tried didn't work until a few years ago where I had success.

I'm now consuming between 1,500 calories and 2,000 calories/day and weight is constant at close to 120kg.

I wonder how quickly I'd reach 150kgs if I actually consumed 2,700 calories/day. An endocrinologist can do that calculation quite easily, right?

The Optifast plan certainly has been studied in trials and people do lose weight. It is used before bariatric surgery to reduce liver size-makes it easier to get to the stomach at surgery.
However there is very little evidence that it is any better than other 800 calorie diet.An 800 calorie diet before bariatric surgery works as well as Optifast.Nestle health sciences do report trials where Optifast is better than other 800 calorie diets. However the Optifast group are closely supervised and the other diet groups are just told to go on the diet.

A friends son had bariatric surgery. Didn’t really change his life. He just used to purée his Maccas.....

Yes I have a friend who had a lap band. Worked great for her, but the way it worked was she would eat, throw up because her pouch was full and eat more. Rinse and repeat etc. Might as well have just gone for bulimia for the damage it would have done. That said, she's never regained the weight she lost, which I guess makes it successful.

Unfortunately most who have bariatric surgery don't have an adequate psych assessment.I have seen many failures due to this sort of problem. One fellow used to just eat mashed potato with 250 gms butter to each potato.the potato though was optional.A woman who drank chocolate milkshakes for 18 hours a day.
