General Medical issues thread

Freaking cold in CBR and rain now.
Don't know if this is why some of my old bones are aching now or if there is some other underlying cause.
Shoulders and arms half way to the elbows have really ached last night and today.
Hardly slept last night as couldn't get comfortable sleeping on either side.
I find cold and damp make my muscles and bones ache more at the moment. I use those wheat bags you heat up in the microwave and that helps. Have a long skinny one that I put over my shoulders to get nice and warm before going to sleep.

They are predicting snow tomorrow, so I think it’s getting worse.....

Bites from bats at night may not even be recognised.

I had the full series of rabies vaccines before travelling to Africa, after the Dr told me about a woman who was scratched by a bat while she was sitting around a campfire. She was barely aware of the scratch as the bat just flew past, but she contracted rabies. I was heading to a 10 week camping trip, so thought it best not to take any chances.
In fact, I had a whole range of vaccines before I went to Africa!

Absolutely brilliant news. Enjoy the feeling!

I've been bitten by a bat. We don't have rabies in Australia, and I was vaccinated beforehand anyway.

That is just so wonderful @coriander. Hope you feel as good as the results indicate. I am so happy for you and your family.
I know how I felt when my onco said I was in remission.

In Vet world animals get vaccinated every 2 years. In human world its about the same maybe longer - so not lifelong.
Also depends on the quality of the vaccine. AUS rabies vaccines are top quality.

So are you saying that animals are only vaccinated every 2 years?
Would that be ok for a healthy 12yo cat that spends most of her time indoors?
However if she were required to go boarding (she never has) they require a vac cert less tha 1 year old.

This will have to become a tradition on your birthday. Wonderful news!

I've been bitten by a bat. We don't have rabies in Australia, and I was vaccinated beforehand anyway.

But we do have Australian bat lyssavirus and if I was scratched by a bat I would be straight off to the doctors. They do advise people not to pick them up especially when they fall out of the sky in the heat because of the dangers of ABL.

Absolutely fantastic news. As a fellow cancer sufferer it will totally change your perspective on life. Enjoy the first day of the rest of your life and may it be long and enjoyable

We certainly do, but not generally down south with the bats I was working with. But it's why I was vaccinated for rabies before starting.

As someone who has spent most of the last year in the lab monitoring myelomas, this makes me very happy.

Even for lab staff - who never see the patients, and are rarely even noticed - when we see a patient has reached remission, there's a little pause to celebrate.
All the best to you. 🥰
