My (new to me, thanks to my old one leaving the clinic) GP has recommended that I take Nexium for suspected reflux, due to frequent nausea in the morning and gagging while brushing my teeth. Oddly, getting a dental checkup doesn't cause any gag reflex. :/
(And no, the nausea is not some other condition that frequently occurs to women
)
Anyway, I would
not have thought I had reflux before taking this medication. Now I feel like it all the time. I understand the medication is to reduce the acid levels in the gut, not to stop reflux. But cripes, there was basically no aeosophageal pain before, and now there is. Weird, to me.
Of course, I eat spicy food, don't mind peppermint chocolate after dinner, drink alcohol, frequently go to bed within two hours of eating dinner ...
I think I need to remember to take Gaviscon as well. (Whinge alert) And maybe reduce my stress levels with a child needing multiple allied health treatments, deciding to add a puppy to our family (and no-one else seems invested in training him
), coordinating everything that isn't family meals, Oh yeah, and working ~32hrs/week.
I had an endoscopy four years ago which saw no reason for my nausea/gagging.
Saw an ENT earlier this year, she suspected reflux, and said to try Gaviscon. I did, but as I couldn't discern any symptoms in the first place, let alone realise if any were getting better, I stopped.
GRR. Bodies can be annoying. I guess I'll finish the first script of this medicine, and then see my GP again.
