General Medical issues thread

Well, maybe applying for the NDIS isn't as scary / harrowing as I thought it would be.

Or perhaps the (first) form isn't that bad ... most of the guts of it need to be completed by the treating practitioner, not the individual/parent.

Good luck - make sure you keep copies of everything as a friend whose brother is an NDIS client took a while to be accepted. And if knocked back (hopefully not) make sure you request a re-evaluation. He has an OCD condition and the support plan review kept highlighting that he had not made improvement - der - get real - this is not a condition that will be cured as he is now in his 50s.

My office last night. Hb crashed to 5.5 which is apparently not good - ended up in Epworth ED. One unit blood last night, bone marrow biopsy and two more units of red cells/bloods today. Only 5 days to departure - haematologist committed and still determined to get me on a plane on Monday. She's highly regarded as a "serious force of nature" which is great to have someone like that on my side.20220830_223121.jpg

Hope you get on that plane

Yes I am resting with leg elevated. Still a stubborn infection accompanied with my immune system issues.
Can be a bugga to get on top of John.
This is the disposable surgical scrub I mentioned earlier.
Don't know if there is a better product available since I used this one. Comments?

So a good few months ago my cardiologist gave me the all clear to start easing back in to exercise again, and recommended that I take guidance from an exercise physiologist. Well I started three weeks ago, and I just wanted to say that my body is feeling bloody brilliant. I was a little dubious about the whole exercise physiologist concept at first, but she has been amazing, setting up a training program for me that is perfectly aligned with my goals.

While I've been walking for the last couple of months, it has been a good 12 months since I did any resistance/weight training. My god, it's as if I had forgotten what the rush of endorphins felt like and not to mention the DOMS. Half marathon next year please god, a little late, but better late than never.
Spoke too soon. One of the exercises has caused a hip injury. More time off. I'm well and truly over it.

My mother had a cellulitis infection for the last 9 or so months of her life - well the ulcer that it created any way. As her skin was so thin the infection broke through and then they just couldn't get it cured - improved but a small infection always remained.
So I would make sure you take good care of yourself JohnK.

When it comes to medical issues and mental health it's better to consult with qualified specialist first.
Welcome,
No, that assumes you know what the problem is in the first instance. In most circumstances start with GP.

This is the disposable surgical scrub
Surgeons use it to scrubs their hands before surgery. What are u using it for?

Thanks @prozac and @love_the_life. Always good to have support from people who care.

Just back from hospital. The cellulitis infection is much better. Hardly any swelling but still some pain.

Another 3 days of IV antibiotic drip + 7 days of 1000mg Amoxiclav oral twice a day.

The strange thing is I thought last Friday flying over and Saturday I was much better but infection has other ideas.

Blood pressure improved past 4 days too

- 163/89
- 164/88
- 143/79
- 126/70

I was stoked today when I saw that blood pressure. My chest has been hurting past 3 days but not now. My usual blood pressure is 105/65 or 110/70 so to see 163/89 was a shock.

Not much of a holiday but hopefully golf next week.

Nothing as serious as others here but my lower back has decided to go on strike. It had become painful towards the end of Berlin but after we got to Prague it decided to completely quit when I stood up at a cafe. So far it seems that it can be managed with only a couple of Paracetamol a day, judicious use of Voltaren and a long afternoon rest. Plus avoiding stairways. Unfortunately Prague old town is so beautiful that it is really irritating that I can't walk all of it.

Plus there are lots of steps around it, especially if heading up to the castle.
